Field jumper, any suggestions?

My 4 yo has taken to routinely jumping out of his field, he first did it around a month ago he was wound up and the horses in the field next to his were galloping round so I just thought it was him over excited and nothing to be worried about.

But he has done it 3 times since then with no provocation at all, he shares his field with a mare he loves, the field is post and railed with electric fencing across the top it must be around 1m15 in height. I wasnt so concerned as the only way he could go was onto the yard and there is always someone around but I am about to move yards and could really do without it on the new yard.

Anyone had this before? Any suggestions?

Hi my boy is also a field jumper we put a row of electric fencing a couple of metres in from the fencing so it was to wide for him to jump, this stopped him from doing it agen.
 
There is plenty of grass in the field, and the mare is in with him :rolleyes: I dont know what to do with him.
The electric fencing sounds good, I will have to check with new YO.

The other thing is the fields have a gate leading to them, he also jumps this to get back onto the yard. If I leave him in the stable he boxwalks and if I put him out he jumps out of the field, plus hes a total flower and the biggest wimp Im terrified hes going to actually hurt himself one day :(

Also could you not square off a part around the gate with electric fencing big enough for horses to fit in then you can get them out the gate safely without other horses bothering you, and this will also stop your horse jumping out as he wont beable to get near the gate. You can only suggest it to YO for the safety of your horse and everyone else around, i hope they help you
 
That sounds good, thank you maggymay. I will speak to new YO today, I think he may be betyter on new yard as most of the fields are next to each other so he would just be jumping into another field, apart from one short side of each so I could pay for the electric fencing across the front of them all. I hope that makes some sort of sense lol
