My horse is a good doer so is only on grass in the summer and grass and hay in the winter, when she comes in at night. I was wondering if she may benefit from a lick in the field to ensure she is getting the vits and minerals she needs. What are people's thoughts and do and licks come particularly recommended? Thanks

Would probably get a bit wet and icky at the time of year! Probably best getting a mineral supplement and feeding in a handful of chaff or speedibeet?

mine have a salt lick in the field and get fed a balancer each day

In the winter when its very very chilly I have a Baileys field lick in a tub and the lid is taken off for half an hour every day, I feel the mollassed lick gives them a little more energy in the cold but thats only my personal view

I use a red Rockies tucked into a dry stone wall, it lasts ages though they use it daily. It has magnesium as well as salt, our grass is mag deficient. However I always feed a balancer as no lick provides enough of anything. I stay well away from anything molassed as well.

Mine has a salt lick in the field and one in his stable. He has balancer with grass nuts as a hard feed too with a magnesium supplement. He is a very good dooer, so on a bare paddock.
