How would you organise this lot?

We have four fields which are all a good size, could be fenced in half and last year we used them as winter and summer fields. At present we have 6 geldings and 3 mares, although 1 gelding is being sold. One of the geldings is a big mean beast and currently lives with the Shettie as everything else he goes in with he tries to kill

and all the others are pretty docile. One of the mares is also a meanie and is separated as she backs into them.
So at present we have 3 geldings in one half of a field with the mean gelding and Shettie in the other half.
Then we have 2 mares and 1 of the geldings in one part of the field and the other mare sectioned off.
However this is currently not working and is causing problems
Advice please as it's only a small yard with 4 people on so it needs sorting

Amy May could be a real madam - she was a bully. But when she was put in with something that was not intimidated by her she was an angel.

So I'm not suggesting that they should fight it out obviously.

I was just wondering that!

We put two bully geldings together to sort out their differences once (we did stand and watch for a few hours to see how bad they would be) they sorted themselves out and were then able to be turned out together with the rest of the group

i would maybe try putting the 2 meanies together (under supervision) to see what happens like AmyMay said.

then if that works go from there spreading the others around until you find what works.
 
The mean gelding was gelded late so tends to get possessive (he's pretty possessive over his Shetland at the mo)

The bit that's not working is the whole thing of horses everywhere and some patches of the fields are muddier than the other. Then there are more horses in one side of the field so they need a bigger patch but if the one on it's own is in a muddy part that leaves them standing in mud all day.
ARRRGGGGHHHH! It's just a nightmare!!!
Basically everyone is worried about their horses and no-one wants any of them to get hurt
 
I think trying the meanies together is the first step. If meanie gelding is just mean because he's possessive he may be fine with anything as long as it is just one other. He can just become possessive of her instead. You can but try at least!
Then you can put them in one field and split the others 3 and 4. Fence off any really muddy parts or to let winter grazing recover and then if any fields get really bad you can swap to the empty field. Good luck!
