Field routine

Whats everyone doing with there neds in this weather? Our field has virtually no shelter so im bringingmy boy in during the day and turning out late afternoon. Only problem is is that he seems to be sweating up quite a bit. Im hosing him off and putting him back the the stable. Hes also grey so i try to keep him out of the sun

Just wondering if anyone does anything different?

My 3 are still out 24/7 and have a bit of shade by trees but Monty (traditional cob) was clipped on friday as he was sweating in the field and now has a fly rug and mask on as he has pink skin and i don't want him burning, the other two also have their fly rugs and masks on.

Mine are out 24/7 now, however have a very breezy field and a lovely Field Shelter .... I have gone up to bring them into their Stables today and yesterday only to find them out and about in the sun ..... they tend stay in the field shelter at dawn and dusk, when the midges and horrid flies are bothering them

As long as they have some shade and plenty of water, most horses seem quite happy

I was wondering this as well. My horse has very little shade compared to the paddock he was in last summer, but he is not pale skinned and it is very breezy in his field.

Other horses who had lots of shade seemed to be choosing to be in the sun and he would have fretted if I had brought him in, because he would have been the only one in.

He's not sweated up and he has plenty of water, will he be ok?

I am sure he will be and as you have said, he will fret if you bring him in, which may be less advantageous ... you know your horse and that is the main thing

Ours are out 24/7 with lots of shaded areas to stand in. Mind you whenever I am over there they are always standing out in the full sun getting really hot... Our stables are south facing and very sheltered so too hot to bring them in out of the heat.

I have to leave her out as all the others are and she would not appreciate being the only one in. I go up early evening to ride and she has a hose down when we're done as it's still so warm. She sweats a lot. She loves the hose that much though, that she'll just stand there not tied and nibling until she has had enough. I'd be intrested to know the temperature of the water running off her belly as it like a running a hot tap sometimes.
Then when all is done, it's on with the fly mask and out still dripping.
