We are moving house, and wish to take our field shelter with us. It is about seven years old and (I think) nailed together. I am sure it will be extremely hard to dismantle, yet fail to see how we could move it in one piece as it is probably too big to go through the field gateway. Has anyone ever successfully re-sited a field shelter? Thanks :)

Yes we have relocated and bought secondhand field shelters. You need to get some thin lever bars (similar to crowbars but with thinner end) to dismantle carefully - always hard when wood is nailed.
It's hard work dismantling - get a few strong volunteers and start with roof removal. :)

We dismantled & re located a stable & tackroom. It can be done but it will take a lot of time & hardwork. If you have got kick board lining or anything like that take all those out first as long as they are not supporting any of the main structure & put them to one side. Then you can concentrate on the outside without the worry of anyone working inside.

You will need to get some help. Also label & mark everything so you know exactly which piece slots in where, take pictures of joints etc to help you.

Good luck

Write on each panel a number, then photograph it in place.
You will then have something to refer to when you put it back together!

Thank you Cat&Mouse and Joeanne - that is really helpful. I remember the labelling from my camping days but would never have thought of doing it to the field shelter - brilliant!

Good luck.

We asked for out shelter to be screwed together. They really pulled their face, but they did it - they do prefer their nail guns if they can!

Can you pull out the nails with a hammer and replace with screws, using the nail holes as starter holes, agree with all about marking before dismantling, it also helps if you load the lorry in the exact "reverse order" if possible, so that when you unload, the first off is the first piece of the jigsaw.

Thank you. Good idea about the loading order.

I guess we never thought about moving it because we always thought whoever bought our house would want to keep horses in the paddock LOL! Since they don't, we shall take it to the new yard.:)
