Hi all, first of all happy new year, lets hope we have a better year(weather wise)

I currently have a very muddy field shelter, we put some type 1 MOT down but that has completely sunk and almost disappeared.
So we was thinking of putting some hardcore down then rather pea shingle or bark down and then rubber matting on top.
What does anyone else put down, does anyone have pea shingle or bark, and how is it holding up?
Also we have clay soil which really doesn't help.

Hardcore would be the best but try not to get the stuff with sharp stones in as it can pierce and damage the rubber mats especially if they are thinner :)
 
After having had great success with pea gravel, I am having problems with a wet floor in the field shelter. In fact, it is muddy all along the front too.

I am pretty sure the problem is bad drainage as I put a perforated pipe under half the floor (then pea gravel) when I built it and that part is fairly dry. Planning on more drainage in the summer when things dry out.

The trouble is, horse hooves and dung make a very good job of creating an impermeable layer. I am on sand which is normally free draining, but not when it becomes compacted.
