Hi everyone - the local council are giving me the run around with planning permission and it is getting towards winter and i wanted something in the field for the horses to shelter in/under.

For the time being it could be permanent/semi-permanent - i just want them to have some shelter - then it is upto them if they want to use it or not.

Any ideas or experience with maybe something you have got yourself would be great.

I dont really like the look of the mobile field shelters - especially for the price too - i cant imagine what it'd be like with a big gust of wind.

Windbreakers - i dont know alot about them to be honest - do you have any recommendations?

Thanks again.

I've got the mobile field shelters from National Stables - I have a 12 x 24 and two 12 x 12s
As long as you site them well they are never a problem. I have had one of the small ones blown but it was facing the wind and was not anchored so my own fault. The big one has never moved an inch unless we move it ourselves.
Fabulous investment and worth every penny.

Only other thing I would suggest if you dont want the expense is big square bales of straw made into a windbreak so they could get their bums up to them

We have just bought 2 12x24 mobile field shelters as we didnt didnt want to get planning and we also dont own the field we keep our horses in.. well actually we got mobile stables and one of them has a removable partition so its a big field shelter or two stables if we put the partition back in.. We didnt know if our guys would use them much but to be honest they are never out them! They field shelters are pinned down and just now we have a hardcore and shale mix base.. not ideal i know but at least its dry.. We are going to put rubber matting down in the next week or so too.. Best thing we have ever bought and to be honest i dont think we will actually use the "real" stables the farmer offers us now... our horses love the fact they can come and go as they please.

I have a field shelter, it's a 12x12.
With where i live i had to have planning permission regardless whether it was mobile or a permanent structure.
I decided to go for the permanent structure.
I had a company out to build me one & we cemented a post in each corner to keep it very secure which has worked.
The winds we get can be really bad but it has held down with no problem. I have also had the floor cemented too.
The planning permission at the time cost £130 & the planning office stipulated that when i was to coat it it had to be dark brown & the roof was to be felted not plastic corrogated.
They were very strict but the planning officers may not be with where you live.
I hope you get something sorted.

Just be aware that every planning department has different views on mobile field shelters. The last thing you want is an appearance by the enforcement officer from the local planning department.

I would wait until your planning permission comes through as you do not want to jepordise any decision.
