Firstly can't believe my boys are o.k, the wind took out our brand new field shelter (4 weeks old!) yesterday and blew it backwards demolishing the neighbours hedge!! Its a substantial, double fronted shelter, with metal skids, damn heavy, but obviously couldn't hack the 78 mph gust that got it!!

Just soooooooooo relieved they weren't in it/near it or worst of all my old pony wasn't behind it, as that is his fav place, would've flatten him!

Also thanks to my brilliant (not that horsey) dad who left his work, came straight home and put the boys to bed as soon as it happened (he has now labled himself as the new horse whisperer, due to being able to catch two galloping horses!!) as it took me hours to get home from work with trees down/roads blocked!!

PHEWF eventually got home and bless them, they were so calm last night, considering, gave them both a nice horsey massages, lots of fuss and left them both completely chilled out !!!!!

Just need to get my "Bob the Builder" head on now and try put a new sheet thingy on the roof!!

Hope everyone else is safe.....what a day!! x

that was lucky! at least your pony wasnt behind it. winds were terrible near us too, luckily the wind didnt damage my stables at all but i was worried about the roof coming off!

i went to do a ladys horses near me yesterday afternoon as she was on holiday. her place is on top of a hill so is always windy but yesterday it was awful - scary. there was stuff blowing everywhere. horses were in and ok but when i opened adjoining hay shed the roof had blown off it, and her poor dog was in there - although it didnt seem bothered! her stables are practically brand new, just shows that in this wind nothing is safe. i was really worried about the roof blowing off the stable next door with the horses in - very scary. the builders are mending it this morning.

Crikey that is scary...I have a mobile field stable and was worrying about that all day and night. Mine is a double one with stable doors on, so I guess it is heavier and there is less for the wind to take hold of as most of the doors are shut...but you do wonder though...glad everyone is okay.

We took the top slat of wood out of our field shelter (to allow wind to go through rather than lift like a kite) and added a really heavy roof after a similar experience 5 years ago. We also put huge metal pins in the corners which go a good foot into the ground.
