I am looking for a field shelter at the moment. I am not sure who to use. I have looked at Shetland to Shires, Colt and National Timbers. Has any one used these companies? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I don't know where you are but I got one from this place last year and I've just ordered another. Very reasonably priced and current one stood up to being dragged across the fields by a tractor very well!

I have been looking at these as they are local to me. I can't see a telephone number to call them though which makes me a bit suspicious.
They are a reputable company - I had one from them. They are at the cheaper end of the scale and the build quality definitely represents that. Mine did not survive the 2022 storms despite being bolted to the ground. It just disintegrated. If you have a sheltered location though then they are good value for money.

My replacement for it (insurance paid out) was by National Timbers who were really good to buy from. Its more substantial in terms of its build and knowing we had heavy rain due in got their guys out early so they could drive onto the field and build it for me.

They are fairly local to me too

I bought one last year from this company and I love it, it's far better made than my previous shelters

That is useful information. I need a few of them unfortunately but i would like them to last. There is on location that is more sheltered so maybe it will be an option there. It is so hard to judge from pictures what the build quality is. Thank you for your input. It has made me think twice.

Thanks, i will get a quote from them.

Yes, I have a premier shelters one, @anguscat.
It’s very substantial compared to the wood ones I have seen, plus virtually maintence free.
Have been very pleased with it.
That’s good to know. How old is yours? Was the business good to deal with? Some of the wooden ones look a bit flimsy to me.
A bit worried they might get overly hot in summer. What do you think?

Mines almost 4 years old, @anguscat.
Business is owned by former jockey Simon Sherwood, and he dealt with everything, and was very good to deal with. I had a million questions and he answered everything!
Mines definitely not hot in summer, probably as it is very open at the front, and has the vents at the back for airflow-although we are quite a breezy site.

All sounds great. Thanks so much for the feedback. 👍😊

I used a company called M4em Timber Products and they were brilliant, great company to deal with, great prices and I am really happy with my shelter.

Has anyone used Fallen Oak Timbers?
I got one from them back in December 2021 and it is still going strong. They were excellent to deal with and the guys that delivered and built it were great too.
Well worth the money and I would highly recommend them. My old boy loves it and uses it all year round.

Thank you. I have been speaking to them and have placed an order. They seem like they know what they are talking about. No deposit is required pay once it is installed. Being installed the week after next. Reasonable priced as well

I have just paid over 3000 for shelter couldn't get entry as come with old lorry that couldn't get in, wouldn't come back to erect so I'm stuck now very unhelpful people

On this, I have been thinking about building shelters that are simpler (as IME horses don't go in as mush as I think they will, but often huddle around the back out of the wind). My OH described what we want as a sort of 'bus stop' with one side and a roof, built on 4 poles. Has anyone done this?
