I'm looking for a bit of information, we're thinking of building a shelter as we have access to a large amount of wooden panels. (Aware of planning issues, YO's OH works in planning).
The shelter will be for either 4 or 7 horses, what size would u recommend? Also, for those of you that have built your own shelters, any pics or tips would be fantastic!

for that many you will need 12 x 24 with 2 openings.

Main thing is that you need some sort of through ventilation. All mine have 'yorkshire boarding' but you can just cut a hole in the back/sides. Otherwise they make great aeroplanes. My husband made me one that managed 50 metres in its first (and only) flight. Its a serious issue though. Friend of mine bolted hers to a telegraph pole and the shelter damn nearly took it down (did really tilt it).

I built mine with telehgraph poles for the 4 corners and planks for the sides (vertically with small gaps in between some of them for the wind) and box section for the roof.
I ran guttering along the back and put a down pipe down to the water trough so it fills up when it rains.
You can usually get the telegraph poles for free if BT engineers are in your area and are willing to drop them off (flirting outragously helps!)

Good luck with the build - my lot love mine and its so cosy in the bad weather. I roll hay bales out for them and put them in the shed and the youngsters snuggle down together in the hay and munch away - very cute!!!
