) but haven't much money. Has anyone any ideas on how to make a low budget shelter??? It doesnt have to be overly big as they are little ponies but just something to give them abit of shade in summer and keep the water off if necessary.

If you have any pics of your field shelter ( cheap ones!! pref non professional!! ) it would be most appreciated thanks

My friends dad made her a fantastic field shelter with old garage doors and old sheets of wood. It is so sturdy and dry in there, also very cosy, I think its been stood up there for 8 years now.

It was so good she got him to make her a stable on the side of it, they're fantastic.

I have seen very nice shelters made out of pallets! I used the idea for myself I liked it so much. The mini ones would be the easiest! Just get big secure pallets and frame them together. It can be qiute heavy and solid when you are done if braced correctly. You would then put treated plywood or sheet steel on the outside for finishing. The horses could not kick through the steel as it would be braced by the pallet wood slats.
Ideas for a roof are scrap pieces of fiberglass board (the type used for metal barn skylights are nice! )...or you could just put a piece of plywood on the top and put rolled roof on it to keep it water tight and from rotting

Best part is that it would be portable and could be moved or drug around anywhere for the smaller ones!

hope this helps...alot of this can be done with scrap/leftover materials and the pallets are often found free. I know Merrill gets hundreds from work.......He has even made tables out of them

You can buy plans off ebay.

I think you're better using marine ply and proper treated wood. It may cost you a few pennies more but it'd be worth it.

Don't forget guttering. You can run it to a water butt to use for allsorts. And rubber matting or a hard standing inside and round the edges so it doesnt get boggy in winter.
