So now I’m lucky enough to have my own place, obviously there will be no other liveries around to notify me of any issues or keep an eye on the place when I’m not there.

So I’m looking for a camera mainly to cover the fields, will need to cover around 5 acres (which wrap around stables so would need to be able to dismount/relocate easily - not like the annoying ring doorbell!) and it needs to be able to run off a SIM card as no electric/wifi. I don’t want to spend a fortune, I’ve seen a Xega 4g LTE on Amazon which has 2 cameras for £108 which is very reasonable I think.

But I’m open to suggestions, it’ll be mostly used to check on the ponies during the day whilst I’m in work and distract myself from life 🤣 but also for security reasons too so if it has motion detection too that would be a bonus!

Rio link is fab, 4g sim is around £7-£10pm depending on data usage
You might need more than one to cover that acreage though

Ive had mine years no issues but they have a warranty and my friend got hers replaced when she had an issue a year down the line

Whilst considerably more expensive than your Amazon one, I’ve got a rural view 360 zoom. It covers my whole 6 acres, is mounted on a pole and is controlled via an app. I run it of their solar kit.

Reolink is good if you want motion detection. For just checking stuff I have iGeek cameras, but the motion detection is far inferior to Reolink.

The Xega 4g LTE solar camera is great, as its so cheap compared to the reolink I thought it was a bit of a risk buying it but I’ve had it since September and I’m really happy with it and planning on buying another one. I just use a Smarty sim card with it, you can change your plan monthly depending on how much you use. The motion detection on it is great, you can adjust what level of motion you want it to go off and set a timer for when you want motion detection on.

I have one of each and boh are good cameras. We did have to replace the xega after 1 year and a week, a week out of warranty! The camera head thing popped out of the frame that it was wired into. I do use the rotation regularly to scan between yard and field areas. But we figured it was still good quality for the price, to have got a years use out of it.

I’ve got 2 Arlo Go 2s, but they are more expensive than a lot of the alternatives on Amazon at £250 but I got them before they existed. One is 3 years old and going strong. I’ve got a gooseneck phone holder strapped to an electric fence pole so I can move it around outdoors.

I have had an IeGeek 4G lte solar powered one for a few weeks now and am delighted. It was £54 off Amazon and while the setting up was frustrating I really happy with its performance. The £7 a month is unlimited data and the features are more than adequate for keeping an eye on the horses in the field. I’ve mounted the units on a pole I can move about so will move it when they come indoors.

I’m usually quite good with technology but the camera connected despite saying the signal was too weak and not discoverable by the app. It définir seemed to skip some steps in the how to guide (?!) leading to me thinking it wasn’t connected. Customer service, however, is excellent and I got prompt and useful advice. They likely think I am hopeless, though, since there was no actual problem!

It’s a yes from me.
