hI everyone. We are looking to move house to somewhere where we can have our boys at home with us. Obviously we would like stables as they normaly come in at night in the winter but i would be prepared to leave them out if needed with a field shelter. My question is with carefull management what could i get away with, what do you all have as field sizes. My boys are a section A that is not allowed too much, a gypsy vanner that can get fat thinking about grass and a vetran section D who is retired. Your thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

If you wanted them out 24/7 I would want at least 5 acres to allow the grazing to be rested/rotated. You would probably find you had too much grass for the summer, but could save this to either make hay, or just left for winter keep.

If you had stabling I am sure you could manage on a lot less - I had 2 x 15hh cobs and a shetland on 2 acres, but they all had to come in at night over the winter, and to ensure enough grazing in the summer, did the reverse so stabled them during the day.

Hope that helps!
