Sorry this is just a moan had one of those days - anyone else from Fife getting fed up with a lack of BSJA shows now that Howe has stopped running affiliated. Looking at the calendar there's not a hell of a lot to go to this winter. Ok Snec runs once a month but I can't go the next time it runs mid December which means nothing else in this area till Kingsbarns in MID JAN apart from intro shows which are no good for us. I am beginning to think it's not worth renewing my affiliated membership. For those of us that just jump one horse it's not worth driving all the way to Rowallan and Ingliston it just costs so much in diesel to get there. The Cabin is fab but it's miles away and again costs a fortune just to get there. Plus it's about 5 hours driving in one day for a few minutes in the ring. Am I just having a grumpy day or is anyone else getting fed up with a lack of shows in this area. There's no Gleneagles, Devon leisure or Howe anymore. I am totally fed up. I miss my showjumping but have neither the time or money to drive to the West all the time.
moan over well done for getting this far :)

im not in fife but not far from it other side of the forth road bridge, with the closest competition centre well over an hour away when making good time, i've noticed a big decline in all affiliated competition in the last year, i had hoped to have registered for affiliated sj this summer but travelling to only jump at snec wasnt very appealing to me without having to travel 2 and a bit hours for like you say only a few minutes in the ring, so i stuck to unaffiliated mainly because there is so much about

I understand your frustration that with centres closing or reducing affiliated competitions a lot of travelling in the winter is unavoidable. Inchoonans have some BS dates in summer 2011 and so that is a positive step for the East but in the meantime travelling seems unavoidable.

Only way to change this would be to email Lucy Brindley - Looking after Scottish members needs is what she gets paid for!

I'm no where near Fife, Newmarket Suffolk in fact, however the situation is not much better down here. My friend has a lovely Foxhunter level horse, she wants to jump affiliated as there are not many unaffiliated classes that are high enough for him. However since Towerlands and Manor Farm have gone, there is hardly anywhere is a localish radius to go to. Our nearest place doesn't not have the kindest of surfaces (think concrete like) so she wouldn't want to take him there much, then everything else is over and hour away. Seems a shame for BS really. BD is a much different story, loads of places within half and hour or so.

I'm not in Fife but from an Aberdeenshire point of view - we only have 1 centre running BSJA nowadays. They are extremely good though and hold competitions very regularly (usually twice a month I think) along with several day shows in the summer. Would be at a total loss if we didnt have this one centre though. Next venue for us I assume would be yours in Fife!

I don't do BS anymore but it was a shame when devon leisure, gelneagles and howe stopped running shows.

I was thinking about getting our local riding club to start running bigger classes - we do up to 1.05m at the moment - maybe we should ask local unaffiliated venues if they would start to add bigger classes onto the end of their day?!

I wonder if BS riders would take their horses to a 1.20 unaffiliated class? I guess the problem there lies in the fact that there would be no prize money and no official course builder.

Seeing the standard of course building at some unaff venues I would not jump my BS horses over a 1.10/1.20m version of what I see being built at 75cm.

I'm in Fife and last time I went to a 'local' venue to a weekend unaff show I ended up not jumping as the distances were all to pot and I thought it was too dangerous

I would jump unaff if a BS course builder had built. But that's the whole reason centres have stopped running BS. It's the cost of having decent judges and course builders. Catch 22!

Measles- have Inchcoonans changed their surface? at all? Would be very keen if it now rides less deep than it used to. I haven't been for over a year.

I am in fife and I am having the same problem for BD there seems to be nowhere apart from SNEC and that is still an hour from me. I have a young horse and she doesnt travel great so not sure i'd really want her travelling that far. we really need howe back!

I agree, i was planning to affiliate my horse in the coming year or so but as Howe has stopped and i have to rely on hired transport then it's not worth the money or bother anymore and its a shame cos he has so much potential as a BS horse
