This is so sad and my heart goes out to the proprietor and the owners.

But sadly this is not an isolated incident. In nearly every edition, Riding Safely reports on equine deaths as a result of fire. Please, please, make sure that you undertake and keep up to date your fire and arson risk assessments and associated fire precautions. Hold mock fire drills and make sure that everyone knows what to do in the event of a fire.

This is the latest in several barn fires in the US in the past 12 months that horses have lost their lives. Wooden or mainly wooden construction, lot's of airflow, goes up in seconds. Sadly animals towards the center stalls of these buildings never stand a chance of getting out. I can think of so many being accidents waiting to happen, some having 60 - 80 plus stalls in one building.

We have regular yard meetings and I insisted at 1 that we had a fire warning bell intstalled, and that we hold regular fire evacs. We do now.

OMG! That is not far from me! How awful for the horse owners and the yard owner.
