So it's official- Flying Coo is the nicest HHO-er.

Hopalong and I were supposed to be lead horse in a pairs XC competition today to help out a friend from my RC who's inexperienced horse likes to stop and gawk at things around the XC course. Hoped that having Hopalong to chase would teach her how to get in (and stay in!) a rythymn XC.

But 2 weeks ago, Hopalong handed me a sick note and has been malingering ever since.

Was really upset at the thought of letting my "team mate" down due to hoppy Hopalong when Flying Coo very kindly stepped in with the offer of her lovely Flying Coo to take Hopalong's place.

After an initial panic about a) having never jumped XC on anything other than Hopalong, ever and b) not wanting to risk her precious pony... she convinced me that Flying Coo would put up with any numptiness on my part and would love a fun yee ha round a wee 2'6 track.

So an emergency visit to her yard yesterday to butter up the Flying Coo (the horse) with carrots and have a practice run over some SJs, tyres and barrels "arena eventing" style. He was a super star and made me feel much more confident about today. A quick wash of his white bits and some more carrots to ensure co-operation. ;)

So today I had the luxury of only worrying about my own tack and went up, walked the course with team mate and then returned to lorry park to find one Flying Coo pretty much tacked up and ready to go! Could get used to having an owner/groom I reckon...! ;) Due to boggy ground in the XC collection ring, warm up was in the outdoor arena and due to it being a pairs class was rather packed and manic!

Me trying to figure out how to avoid small, nippy ponies who appeared out of nowhere and poor Flying Coo wondering who this numpty on board is...

Having a canter and Flying Coo (horse) "posing" for the camera, or was it a cry for help to Flying Coo (owner! I am starting to sympathise with Old Git and his "MG"s! ;) )?! ;)

Discussing team tactics with his new pal...

Very odd going from warm up arena to collecting ring and only being allowed to walk about until being called to start. Both horse were being nice and chilled out at the start box until another pair came zooming through the finish line and they suddenly realised it was yee ha time! A little bouncing from them both and then 3, 2, 1, go! :D

I won't run through the course fence by fence as it was mostly logs with various boulders/barrels/logs as fillers and a couple of drops thrown in. Flying Coo happily cantered around giving his new pal a lead over everything and we went clear, with a couple of circles to wait on pal when her rider got a bit excited about how well they were doing and forgot to keep kicking at a couple of the fences! ;)

He was so polite and just so genuine and honest and a total pleasure to ride. I jumped off grinning ear to ear and would loved to have gone round another lap or two with him. :D He was reassuringly similar to Hopalong to ride- if you pointed him at the jump and kept your leg on, you just knew he would go. I am now no.1 Flying Coo fan club member. :D

A couple XC pics courtesy of Mr FigJam, first one at a distance through trees a bit far away taking a bit of a long one out of the double :o ;

And wheeeee over the fan fence;

Attempting to do the drop "style" fences as a pair, but pal's horse preferring the Flying Coo checked for demons first and Flying Coo saying "let's go, thank you very much"!

So a HUGE thank you to both Flying Coo (the owner) and Flying Coo (the horse!) for letting me have a fun spin round today when I thought I was going to have to pull out and let my partner down.

Even better, when I got to the yard this evening and trotted Hopalong up, she was looking a fair bit better, so fingers crossed she's decided she's had enough of a holiday and doesn't want to miss out on more parties. Will keep resting and crossing fingers that she keeps improving.

Lovely to see some other HHO-ers today, some of them having very a good day, you know who you are, well done! :)

Now you know how I felt riding H - not the actual riding, she makes that easy. Just the worrying about breaking her :D

Very well done for going XC "cold". Looks like loads of fun. And Flying Coo (owner :) ) is nae bad really ;)

Wow well done and what a nice HHO!!! Im a bit of a whimp about jumping other horses!!!

Me too- I really can't remember the last time I jumped anything other than Hopalong and had never done XC on anything else, ever! Was really good to "push" myself and ride a different horse though, although he did make life very easy and I'm sure he'd have done as good a job if I'd just showed him the course map and set him off without my hinderence...! ;) All credit to Flying Coo (owner), she has trained up Flying Coo (horse!) beautifully to be such a dude. :)

now_loves_mares: aye, she's nae a bad quine! ;) :D

domnobrown- he's gorgeous, and just a total sweetheart.

How funny to see a FJ report with no Heidi:eek:
What a smashing horse Flying Coo is :D and lovely owner to lend him to you :)

I know, even though I (obviously!) knew I hadn't been riding her today, it was still odd pestering Mr FJ for photos and then not seeing her! But Flying Coo's boy is a very fabulous super-sub. :)

PS- now_loves_mares- we were in "team colours" of red. It was as matchy matchy as I could convince a bloke to get interested in...! ;)

flying coo looks awesome - looks like you both had a great day out! so brave riding a new horse XC!

fingers crossed for Hopalong maybe if she knows her limelight could be stolen she will decide to get better or maybe just because her carrots are going missing! :)

ooohhh i am in luuurve with flying coo:cool:

great report!! i was meant to be there today but pulled out, decided we arent quite ready yet:o

get well soon Heidi!

Well done, looks like you had a great time! The Flying Coo is lovely, hopefully Hopalong will be back on form as soon as she realises what she's been missing :)!

The Flying Coo enjoyed his day out and was fair chuffed with himself at bed time for having his blast! He was glad to be of an assistance.

He is a cool dude and makes it very easy for his riders.:D Thankfully, he always keeps his eyes open when I usually have mine shut at the big scary ones!!!

He is now in love with the "Figjam Wifey" as she fed him lots of polos and carrots just for having a wee canter out!! He could get used to that he says!
He better not start making those kind of demands with me:D:D:D

We're now away to attempt to be Dressage Diva's for the winter:D:D:D:D lol

Mrs Hopalong H better get a shift on and get better soon so she can come and play soon with the Flying Coo and all her other friends too x

What a handsome chap Mr Flying coo is! Well done you guys at steping in at short notice :D The red colours where very standout in the woods i must say - I think that I wouldnt have seen u chaps so well in normal FJ team colours of Green and Navy due to loads of trees!

Shame not to see Miss hopalong there - maybe now she will have a case of FOMO (fear of missing out!) and now want to get back to partys! :)

hey great to meet you :D and well done :D

we had a stop AGAIN at the double - but stayed on this year and jumped 2nd time round - that double is def our demon fence - doh! but third time lucky next year ;)

rest of course went really nicely though - def finding our xc wings - was the first course we've really flowed round (till the stop lol!) rather than wiggling to every fence then jumping it in a chip and ping (HRH's  stylee) fashion - so over all i'm pleased :)

oh - and we were allowed the helmet cam :D :D :D soo - vid of HRH's and my derrier to follow :o

Thank you all (and biggest thanks to FlyingCoo of course! :D ), he is a very handsome boy and a lot of fun to ride. FigJam wifey looks forward to snaffling him some more carrots in the future although I'm sure Flying Coo horse will be more than happy to have human FlyingCoo back on board again and back to normal. :)

I hope you are all right and that Hopalong's FOMO (good one Ems! :) And Kez, you may well be right that it's the fear of missing carrots as much as yee ha's that persuades her! ;) ) kicks in over the next week or so. As much fun as it is playing with other ponies, I want my pony to be well again too. :(

NeverSayNever- that's a shame. There's always next year though and better to go over prepared than underprepared. It's all about having fun after all. :) There's HT at Kinnaird at the end of the month if that gives you extra time for practice?

Ems- yes, normal combo of green/navy colours and Hopalong's boring bay-ness would certainly have made good camouflage in the woods! Well done again on your Bopping! :D

posie_honey- lovely to meet you too. Sorry I didn't manage to catch you after. That's a real shame your bogie fence caught you out again, although it seemed to be catching quite a few out (it one one of the ones my team mate had a duck out at plus my RC pal fell off at it and saw plenty other run outs there). Look forward to seeing "Run Honey Run", who needs Henny?! ;) Glad you had a smoother round and are pleased, it's all good experience and great to be finding improvements no matter what the result on paper. :)

yeah - its a bugger lol! but i rode it totally wrong the first time - for some reason i thought i'd be best heading left of the bolder in the middle - stupid choice as HRH always runs out left! headed straight for it the 2nd time and she flew it - so next year i know what to do ;)

'run honey run' will be on line shortly lol! but i appologise now for the swearing (if you can hear it!) when i got the run out :o oops! :o

Ahhhh what a lovely pony, and how nice of FC to lend him out!

Fab pics as always, you look like you had a ball.

Hope Hopalong didnt feel too left out and is back in action really soon
