As duly promised...

Fig has been going great guns at home :) With todays competition, I stepped his schooling back down to the basics, so no piaffe or changes!!!

He takes his competition prep very seriously:

But still finds time to let his hair down:

Stupid boy

Anyway. Onto today. We got off to a terrific start... Just pulling into Vale View 'I think I'm having.... OH MY GOD' Que massive nosebleed. Everywhere! (except my white breeches somehow!). The cab of the lorry looked like a murder scene. And Jesus F Christ it would not stop!!!! I gave up in the end and plugged my face up - sexy - and got on. I've had sinusitis for a few weeks so am a bit sniffly already, so can imagine I looked a glorious sight!!!!

Fig was a little funky fresh to start with. The warm up was on the busier side but not too bad - he did settle after a long stretch and numerous pats though. I'd taken his snaffle bridle with me just in case, but he felt good in the contact just a little skittish against the leg, so I stuck with the double :) (must remember that it's ME who must not hang on the curb though!) Did lots of sweeping leg yields to give and retakes, thinking soft against the leg and soft in the hand. In the canter I practised some working canter p's; the aim being to get him sitting and using himself rather than 'just' cantering. They really settle him and slow him right down, stop him from being so quick quick quick behind (and when he gets tense that just makes him change change change lol!).

Into the test... M61 first, but in his favoured National arena. Some think it's a little claustrophobic and dark, but I prefer it to the International which is bigger and brighter (and spookier!). I erm, sort of forgot to ride :o Everything was sweet, and accurate and soft. It just lost that edge and bounce to it. We had a couple of wibbles but he was relaxed enough that he didn't take umbrage to me correcting him! The shoulder in was better than last time, I did remember to ride that! The trot and canter quality in general was better too, I'm just annoyed I didn't keep my leg on and do him justice. But remembering *everything* in the arena is always easier said than done, right?!

Put him back on the lorry for 30 mins, and me and PS went and grabbed some cheesy chips and rested our weary souls. Nose still bleeding at this point!!!

When we got him back out you could tell straight away - he was SO much more relaxed and concentrating on me rather than fretting about the other horses. And he didn't look at a single thing all day, he doesn't hugely like the corner with the chairs in next to the horse walker, but today it wasn't a problem! I'd taken 5 mins to stretch my hips out before getting on this time, so I felt better too and could sit much easier this time round. Focussed lots on the tempo; think big and slow strides, don't let him get quicker and sharper and take over. Lots of on and back in both the canter and the trot. Did some super steps of passage which helped to get him waiting on my seat.

E53 rode pretty well, although I do hate those short diagonal medium trots! I let him down by making the leg yields too steep so we reached the track a few strides early. He tripped in both the trot-walk-trot movements for some reason  And dumbo here didn't keep him round enough in the trot-canter transitions, so he hollowed ever so slightly, but enough to drop a half mark I imagine. The same in the halt (my fault again), however the transition into rein back and out into ext walk were both lovely. Pleased with my effort in that test, felt like I'm starting to get the confidence (and brain power) to correct more correcting more rather than sitting pretty (or not, by todays standards) and just playing passenger.

Chuffed to bits with the scores! M61 67.41% - think there were 9 in it? We went training but would have been 4th :) Judge was a tough cookie and the company was somewhat daunting (Paul Friday and Henry Day to name a few!). E53 70.15% and 1st restricted 2nd overall (well done F514 and MH!), think there were 12 in it?

Couldn't have asked for a better debut to 2014 and a better day in all really :) It was cold and I didn't feel fantastic, amongst other crappy happenings, but that little horse is priceless. He never fails to try for me and make me smile.

Speaking of priceless. Have a look at this!

Figs sale papers!!!! Bought for the princely sum of 21k. Can't think of an amount that I'd part with him for though, couldn't ever put a price tag on him.

I've done my entries for Keysoe U25's High Profile and am SO excited. So we've got a week to have some fun in the school and then a week to polish the test stuff :)

Very well done, but I'm MOST impressed that he's by GALILEO!! Fantastic bloodline! Looking very secure and supple. Hope the nose is OK.

Well done!

Flipping brilliant results!! An amazing day by all accounts.

2014 has gotten off to a flying start for you :D

Super duper :D he just looks bigger and better every time you post!

Was debating whether to look at your pics after your detaile nose bleed description, had a fuzzy head just thinking about it and probs would of fainted if I saw any bloody pics haha :D

There are some very good sport horses with him in their pedigrees.

Congrats, great start to the new season. (Except for the bleeding, of course.)

Thank you everyone! Hoping we can get a 66%+ score at Keysoe in the Elem and that will be our Summer Regionals Qual nailed (and ROR sheets!), and a 60%+ score in the Medium and bag 1 set of Area Festival sheets :)

Great scores he looks super!! His pedigree is really interesting as the dam line produced the popular NH sire Overbury, who was by Saddlers Wells, which would make Fig a very close cousin/sibling of Overbury from both sides . There are lots of lovely Overbury horses around, well made with good temperaments :-)

Great start to the year, have to say only one of the sparkle sisters could manage to have a nosebleed whilst wearing white breeches and gloves and still look immaculate!

the other sparkle sister was armed with a huge roll of kitchen roll........... the definition of sisterly love-stuffing it up your siblings nose as she has got her riding gloves on!!!!!!

i am coming to dread "Fraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" whilst driving, as it normally means either a spider related or medical emergency lol!

proud of you snot face, and snoffletrufflefigglepig :)

Yes - I've noticed both sides stamp very well and renknowned for being trainable characters :)

Haha had forgotten about spider related trauma!!!

A great start to this years campaign :) Good luck at the BYRDs show :)

(Just been wondering, why does he have a head but no hood for the stable?)

Fly is by Overbury...always get comments on her conf/temperament.

Fab report NM...glad to know I am not the only one that plugs nose and carries in with big nosebleeds, lol.

Fig looks fab as usual and what a great start to the year! :)

Thank you :)

We've found the necked ones rub in the past, and Fig seems to be made of silk and gets rubbed by everything. I don't put anything necked on him in the stable unless he's had a bath or it's actually baltic!

Missed this earlier!

Can you imagine what PS would have done if I'd dared complain lol!!!!

Thank you, over the moon with him :)

When you have a sister that will plug your nose for you, complaining is I think justified and hilarious :)

I have nosebleeds regularly. I always have tissues on me anyway as have had rhinitis my whole life too, so I just pull off bits of tissue, roll, stuff up nose and carry on with whatever I'm doing. Dan invariably makes a really bad Walrus joke and I only bother to get up if it's so bad that it soaks through quickly.

Fig is a sweetheart, it's lovely to see the work progressing so steadily and it's always consistently good :)

He looks so good in a double, can't stop saying that! Little Fig is growing up! Congrats on the good scores!

Aw thank you :) Yes he looks like a 'proper' horse now!!!

*snigger* By that stage I'd given up caring what people thought of my sniffling snotting and bleeding everywhere!!!!

I've got a polyp in the right side and do sometimes get them, they'd stopped for a while but yesterdays antics were down to the left side misbehaving.

All I wanted to do was blow my nose!!!! Like when you want to laugh and really really shouldn't!

Ah thank you, he's a good boy and I really can't wait to see how the year progresses :D

I had a turbinectomy in 2012 and I am much better than I was, but it certainly didn't fix it. Next is the tonsils coming out which I am really not looking forward to. You have my sympathies....it's a PITA but does make for some funny stories ;)

Well done. He looks fab as always.

And Fig is Roo's third cousin or something! His great grandad is Sadler's Wells! I shall show him Fig pictures and explain that I'm expecting similar great things.

Googled. Sounds lovely!

I had mine out quite a few years back, had a few further lumps and bumps of scar tissue removed too and it solved a lot of problems for me. You'll be surprised how quickly it all heals up :)

Lol!!!! No pressure then Roo ;)

That is actually very reassuring, thank you. :)

Wow what amazing results! He is progressing so quickly and so confidently through the grades, well done both of you!

My miracle cure for my endless nosebleeds is a bit of vaseline every night. Keeps the nostrils moist and less likely to be aggrevated during the day (I used to get 1-2 nosebleeds a day, now get 1-2 a year).

What a great result! Well done. The pictures are fab (as always) and he does look very grown up.

Having seen his pedigree I now loofs him even more because he shares a Granddad with this gawjuss (if frustrating) specimen

Oh plops that didn't work.....let me try again.

SoPo (as named by Jesstickle) who shares Fig's Granddad....but sadly not his dressage talent :(
