4am start on the muggiest, stickiest day ever....yum

Continued with the double warm up theme for Fig today; he was awesome during the first one. Really soft and concentrating. Did some back and forth in the trot and canter which got him waiting on me nicely :) Got him back out second time round to a slightly busier warm up - he's not 100% confident around other horses just yet, but no point pussyfooting round it! Lots of sideways stuff and flexions to get him soft in the hand - at home we've been working on self carriage, getting him to hold the bend to the inside (half pass prep really) off my inside leg. In turn that's improved our leg yield and shoulder in ten fold :D All was fine, he was behaving superbly, until someone thought it a brilliant idea to walk/canter directly next to us whilst simultaneously yanking their horses head off, spurring it into next year and cracking it over the arse with a whip  Fig did a small pogo of terror and was a little unsettled for the next few minutes, particularly in canter, but felt calm again just before we went in.

No looking at the gnome huts, judges cars, white boards or flowers  Although I did circle in front of each just in case ;) Test was lovely - really sweet and accurate. Circles all present and correct, left the markers/joined the track as per test, used my corners well. Centre lines both straight, halt square and today the trot work was F.A.B :D Really taking me forward, letting me half halt and push him up. Mediums were the best they've ever been in the ring. Our canter transitions were erm, fairly horrid!! Still a little too sharp to the leg due to warm up faff, so it was a delayed reaction and then an over reaction! Counter canter spot on, but I let him swing his quarters in the second one as we came back to trot. I should have tried harder to keep the ribs supple in the trot 15m circles, and I fluffed the free walk by more or less chucking the reins at him! So only mistakes were mine :o Very very chuffed with him - he was so chilled today, which is a massive improvement on the Regionals (our last big show).

I bought a lovely pro pic from David Sellars which I am oh so proud of (Even dressage mad Pappy Turner approved!) but won't post on here for obvious reasons

Scores: 63.55% which left us 15th/26 (1st on 69 and 2nd-4th roughly on 67, followed by a 65 and a number of 64's). So out of the top 10 placings but judges not going mad on the %'s across the board. Sheet comments echo my own thoughts; promising (attractive!) horse who needs to be softer over through the back and neck to get higher marks. Big tired smile from me, as there's plenty more to come and I achieved exactly what I wanted - a solid confidence building outing :)

Regular BD outing for us in a fortnight, followed by Kingswood AF :squee:

Sunday Roast with extra cauliflower cheese and oversized glasses of rose on offer!

well done, love him, and wish i had half as good a position as you do! Lots of carrots for fig for being a good boy at a bigger show :p

Where did you get your fly veil from? I just bought one for the horse i share which fits her head perfectly but the ears are massive on her, so it looks a bit funny :D Damn horse and her big head/small ears combo!

Thanks :D I'm (for a change) pleased with my position today, my right leg is doing less wild things than usual...

Ear hat is Equi-Line :)

Such a clever boy!
Think he's enjoying this dressage superstar lark :)

Thanks BLY! He seems happy which makes me very happy :)

I think he's looking awesome! You've got such a good base to build on (I mean his musculature and the training!) that the rest is just now going to take time.

Have to say you look far stronger in your core in these pics too!

Thanks Trouble :)

He is just so easy to work with, he has his moments where he's against you of course, but for the most part is so 'yes'.

I've moved my chiro appointments to every fortnight which has really helped, and have upped my oil/glucosamine intake too. I sat cuddled into the equissage for 40 mins prior to arriving which I think made a massive difference, so am intending to start using it for 10 mins before riding to loosen my pelvis (we did buy it for the horses honest!). All little tweaks to me taking place, but feel like I'm starting to plateau in the pain/stiffness stakes rather than getting worse and worse - so am hopefully doing something right! Effing arthritis

Big well done to both of you. aren't people total p***s sometimes?
Our TB can be easily upset by something like this too & they are not easy to bring back down again, so well done!

He looks stunning! Well done!

Btw Kingswood is a fab place, good luck for the AF :)

Thanks :D Am hoping he will be a good boy!

Thanks :) Yes, I thought it was a bit thoughtless  Fig is definitely maturing/becoming accustomed to a warm up situation though, even if he does get upset he is much easier to settle afterwards now than ever before!

Well done! So glad he was more chilled this time round and he'll just get better and better with more experience! He has come an extremely long way very quickly, well done both of you!

Go figgy pud! He looks fab, so glad he coped with the athmosphere better this time. good luck for AF.

See your still defying physics ;)

What a change, he looks fab in the pics, well done!

Thanks L :D He's in great condition at the moment, unrecognizable from the hat rack that arrived in December

Thanks Booboos! Hoping it's all clicked for him and he realizes this is just another occasion where we go round in circles ;)

Well done fig! Fab result :)

Thanks R, super proud of him :)

Thanks DH :) He was cool as a cool thing for 99% of the day - I've instructed PS to ride as fast and close as she dare when we ride at home together to try and get him used to horses in *his* space.

Ah yes, defying physics and not eating ;)

he looks fab....well done, esp given the warm up incident. he looks a million dollars

Thanks amandaco!! A couple of people came up to me today to tell me how lovely he was (and asked about his breeding/background which caused a few jaws to drop to the floor) - which made me very :o My little exracer bod done me proud again!

He ain't half bad for a ex-racing pony :D What a clever pony! (and rider, obvs)

It's amazing how you've struggled through so many issues... :p ;)

Ooo he's looking fab! Makes me think maybe a TB wouldn't be so bad after all.... :P
I do love him though!

Hamster boy and the pogo of terror, surely thats a bad indie band somewhere:D
he looks lush and glad it went so much better:)

He was such a hamster boy this morning - took me under 5 minutes to do his stable!! His only bad habit? Dragging his haylage round the stable and sleeping on top of it!

Thanks RM, I'm so pleased for him that he had a nice day, he looks ever so chuffed with himself still :)

Thanks Lolo!! the ex racers!! Ooh er I don't know about that, I'm sure he could do this on his own!

*sniggers* the things we've overcome

Well done, he is just gorgeous and looking really good at the moment.

Thanks CH - really nice for you to say that :) (I think he's def starting to look rounder? Maybe eating more haylage now the grass isn't so rich??)

Thanks!! Nawww you want a TB really ;)

Sorry, logged in as Ferdinase rather than MH, will try again!

Well done! He is looking much stronger generally. Im having to wait till Myerscough right at the end for both of ours, really hope my back will be ok in time, so frustrating!

The name change still confuses me!

Thanks :D He is really starting to power through from beginning to end of a session now, am having to baby him less and less!

Your poor back :( Finger crossed!

Well done, the pair of you are looking good:)

Thanks ab, he's so purty!

I agree with MH - he is looking so much stronger and if the comments are relating to suppleness over the back, you are doing the right things anyway to improve that. :)

:D Thanks F, yes feel like I'm headed in the right direction. He's nearly there at home now, but obviously loses than softness and elasticity at shows and in the ring partic.

Wow well done! You both look fantastic :D

What is the hat you are wearing?

Thanks Pasha!

It's a LAS Pelle and ever so comfy and light :)
