Today we went to Houghton Hall Equestrian Centre for the British Dressage Retraining of Racehorses Championships!
Fig has been so lovely lately; calm and consistent. I was really hoping he would have a happy day
Such a gorgeous venue, I've never been before but we will be adding it to our list of regular venues now! I chose to warm up in the indoor collecting ring and he worked very well even with people and (some very lovely) horses coming and going.
After stretching we had to work through a prize giving... I was 50:50 stay:get out!
But thought, whatever, he needs to learn to work through distractions like that. He has before, so it would have been an experience building outing whatever the outcome.
Very pleasantly surprised that aside a couple of mad snakey moments he was perfecto.
Did as much easy stuff with him as I could. Sweeping leg yields. Shoulder in to renvers. I used some gear changes to get him rocking his weight back. But aside from that, I wanted to keep the work as light as possible.
I could have been braver with the ext walk, the med and ext canter and our final halt should have been straighter. We were very happy with him though, he didn't spook at all (except his own foot lol) and really tried to stay with me.
Ecstatic to confirm we are the 2015 ROR @ Medium Champions!!!!! With a whopping 70% no less.
Big thank you to everyone who quietly told me that we COULD do it this morning. I always worry I'm going to mess up and let Fig down. Thank you to PS as always; my sister, best friend and absolute rock.
