She said pretty much to give him a kick from the hips rather than foot if that makes sense, which she said around the last 10 mins of the lesson as he was slowing down whilst we were changing rein. I had my leg on but it wasn't doing anything for the whole time, I had him forward walking at the start but kept dying down. My horse yesterday was pretty much one small tap and he knows his job

Others here can be sensitive and will do the honours of telling you that you messed up by dropping you 😂
The thing is the more you ride different horses the more you learn. So whilst it’s always encouraging and useful to ride an easy one, we really learn from the not so easy ones.

Yeah I get banter, I think I just didn't want to hear anything about that ride as I just didn't come off feeling good about riding despite last times I felt amazing 😂 plus the one who said it I've had some issues with that have been sorted and being handled 🤞

It is really hard and I've never really properly rode aside from happy hacking and everyone here seems to know what they're doing 😂

Think I'm a bit insecure about my riding
And your response to people is to laugh and say ‘yes I was rubbish, roll on tomorrow when I’ll be better’

Everyone is insecure about their riding and if you are not then you don’t have a growth mindset because then you are not thinking about how you can improve. The difference is about not letting it dictate things you do or making you shy away from making mistakes. Unfortunately failing is the best way to improve.

I completely get that. If you’re not totally confident about something it’s very difficult to hear anyone else comment on it.
I bet you’d be surprised who else on your course is feeling the same!
I was told that the ones who go to racing school having not done that kind of riding before are often the ones that do best in the end because they can be taught correctly from scratch.

My instructor said something very similar that it's much more harder to teach the people who do the 12 week courses to ride racehorses (because that course is for people who have ridden all their life or ride out already and want a qualification) as alot of em need to unlearn or drop habits!

In some ways, that might be an advantage long term- if you're learning to race ride, it's a very different style of riding to what people might have been taught e.g. at pony club! So at least you don't have to unlearn anything!
