Sorry about the title best I could do. I will be asking my vet tomorrow but:
My lad Drifter got kicked by a pal Saturday Right Fore on the outside fleshy part about half way between elbow and knee. Needed stitches so had the vet out and she treated put 4 staples in and we had antibiotics for 5 days walked in hand and start light ridden work now,.
My query is:
the muscle where he was stapled was quite big and now all the fill has dropped away down to his knee as of yesterday.

Today it has started to travel down the outside of his leg I did some quiet work and he is very sound on it (obviously no charging around). Is this sort of filling normal for this sort of injury. It appears to be from the lymphatic system I believe.

Its a dumb question but it is so long since I have had this sort of injury its been all tendons and ligaments with the old boy.

Im in same postition different area of injury.Mare was kicked above hock and had heamatoma during this time she developed mud fever and had course of antibiotics for cellulitis. The cellulitis has travelled to her hock so she cant pick up her leg properly. The swelling improves after excercise and she not lame.My vet has told me it can take two months for recovery but Im not happy with capped hock. Hes out on monday to my gelding with tendon tear and will get check up on mare then. He has always insisted that two months is normal for swelling to subside.I have started using herbal remedy called chilvers (ebay) rather than high doses of danilon.I cant tell you if its helped yet she has only been on it 3 days.Worth a try in my opinion as its herbal.

Not referred to Vet yet as Stable bandaged last night and fill had moved further down knee and outside of foreleg. Walked in hand for 25 mins this morning and went down well. Put Bioflow wraps on this morning will be interesting to see if they have helped when I go back down in abot 60 seconds (I just looked at clock)

Ive stopped danilon and chilvers herbal remedy seems to be keeping inflammation down just a hot capped hock now.How are things with your horse.

Hi Cellie,
I am faring much better than you. The fill in his leg is moving down more and I feel that the magnetic wraps helped. I walked in hand for a further 20 minutes this pm and then popped on board and did some light walk with a bit of trot(vet said I could). Apart from the big leg and staples he is as sound as a pound.
The filling is shifting with all the walking work and its keeping him sane.
I was very lucky as I saw the kick happen and had the vet on it within the hour.

Its my own fault I know but I had a near disaster this morning.
Went down early to walk the boy in hand and while I was walking him he bit me. My fault becuase I have been giving him random polos to get him concentrating on the business of walking with me rather than everything else.
I walloped him as he has to know thats unacceptable and he shot away lost his footing and came crashing down on the bl@@dy concrete right on the side of the staples.
They look intact and I cannot see any signs of external damage. I walked him gently for another 20 mins and will go back down this pm and keep my fingers cross there isnt a lump bump etc anywhere. If there is I will probably use my head to bang a concrete post into the ground.

Oh thats just bad luck hope he is ok tonight.Dont beat yourself up about it these things happen.Hes probably on danilon so has some pain relief bless him.
I cant walk my tb gelding out in hand although I can walk him past anything ridden.

How are things with your horse.Hope swelling has improved.
Magnetic hock boot has caused hair loss arghh and mud fever has flared up after using sand school. Now going on ebay to see if I can find some boots to protect her legs from abrasive sand .

Things are looking great at the mo. I cant beleive how humungous his leg was when I first posted nearly all the fill has gone so he is just having magnetic wraps on in day. The stapled area is scabbing up nicely but a bit of a weeping where the scab is coming away.
Will phone vets tomorrow re having staples out as if it can be wednesday I can share a visit.
Edited as I just looked back and cant believe its only 3 days since I had an elephant leg and its now bearly normal.

Things sound very positive with your lad.
Good job vet is out tommorrow .My mare has alot of heat in her hock ,the leg swelling is bit better but the hock itself is big.
I have tendon scan being done on my gelding and lameness workout on his coffin joint and now this with the mare.My yo cant believe my bad luck.I so need a break from vet bills .
