I know this should be in vet'n'ry, but there are 113 of you in here atm, so I'm trying to get the best response!

I have a 5 year old Hano currently living 24/7 at grass as he is recovering from a ligament injury. He's being hacked about 3 or 4 times a week.

In the last week, his legs have steadily started to fill up, all four equally, although the left fore does feel slightly hotter. They go down with exercise and he is not lame on them.

They look to me like the kind of filled legs you would see in a stabled horse fed lots of concentrates, but he's out at grass, walking around all the time.

He gets a bit of chaff and a few pasture nuts just to have his supplements in, so he's not getting much in addition to the grass.

I'm just wondering what on earth it could be. Rich grass? An allergic reaction? He seems well in himself.

Could be protein rich grass? As the grass isnt frizzled yet could be a reaction to that. What supplements? My mare had the same reaction to blue chip turns out she has soya allergy

windguls sp? my mare has them fairly badly and they fill up within and hour of being in the stable (she is on now feed lives on fresh air)

but once excersised they go down fine.

just a thought im probably wrong but it was worth saying

The ground is very good at the moment.

I guess it could be windgalls, yes. Hopefully that's all it is.

I've asked the vet to ring me, so I can run it past him, see what he thinks.

thanks for all your help.

This happened to my horse. Farrier suggested change of feed. The only thing that had changed was he that he had loads of bumps over his body. so I sprayed him with a fly spray that I had made up myself two years previously. Thought it might be this or also thistles in field. kept him in 1 night and they gradually went down also with exercise.
