I was speechless!

Incredibly irresponsible and very dangerous

p.s. (yes i know i was filming whilst driving but i had both hands on the wheel at all times and it was only for 30 seconds - so dont bother mentioning it!! :p )

Well you've got the reg no are you going to report them?

I once saw a woman get in her car with two young kids, both under 5, and she didn't put them in their car seats, but she put her own seatbelt on, her mother was waving them off, so I said to her 'doesn't your daughter like her kids?'. She just looked at me blankly, so I said 'well she obviously wants them killed because she put her own seatbelt on but didn't bother to strap the children in'. So she says, 'oh she's only driving a mile or two home, they'll be fine, my daughter is a safe driver' !!!! So I asked her if all the other drivers on the roads are safe too. She could just go round the corner and crash or someone crash into her.

i don't know what the outcome was as I was on my way to work, but hopefully she told her daughter to strap the kids in in future.

mad!

I think this video needs to be seen by the police.. They need to learn the lesson.
As a parent, this is totally idiotic.

I've seen that sort of thing before!

The best I saw was in the petrol station, small kids climbing all over the adults, car waaaay overloaded, and the driver got out with his Jack Daniels bottle in his hand, then the other adults staggered out, we had the lot, vodka, some blue stuff and even a bottle of Lambrusco!

The Tesco staff were great, very calmly one '....went to get some more stock for the shelves'...and quietly called the Rozzers.....

Around the corner when they set off, and a police car had quickly and quietly placed itself there, as it took sooooo long for the driver to fill up, because he was so p*ssed! :D

Call them, they will get the video off your phone. I'd be doing it, you might be doing that child a favour, might even save his life.

i am worried that the police will look dimly on the fact i filmed it while driving, but i just couldnt ignore it, i had followed them for some time and at one point the child was stood up leaning into the front

Do you mean look dimly on the fact that you were breaking the law - yes I imagine they would.

Don't see how you can have had full attention on the road if you were setting up your phone to film a clip, even if both hands were on the wheel during the actual filming.

You must have intended to report it though, otherwise why bother filming it at all?

Well, if your worried about a slapped wrist over filming it to hopefully preventing a tragic accident, that's your call.

My ??! Was ' don't report them' !!!

I don't understand , some cars have cameras fitted!!

However I do have a police person as a high up friend :) tell me how o share and I will :) these people need to understand how precious their children are

I was stationary when i set up my phone (the video has been edited and clipped in movie maker) and wasnt looking at the screen the whole time i was filming, alot of the stuff i edited out was because i had filmed mostly dashboard!! The bit you have seen was while i was either stationary or driving very slowly.

But you are right, my full attention wasnt on the road, it was transfixed in horror at the child playing in the boot of the car infront!!!

I didnt film it to report it, i filmed it to show my family as i was so shocked, then decided to share it to raise awareness.

Not that it is right, but this video reminded me of when my sister and I were kids and my family used to pack us kids in the back of my auntie's station wagon (don't know what they are called over here, estate cars maybe?) when we went shopping with all the groceries. It was fun rolling around the back with all the bags of food! Or even when my dad used to pack my sis and I in his work van at the back- no seats, just his upholstery tools and chairs, couches, pieces of foam that he was repairing all rolling around the back with us kids. We thought great! My OH had a similar story travelling in his dad's builder's van with all the circular saws and tools rolling around the back with him. He thought it was great too. As a parent now, I am horrified but it seems that us kids from the 70's and 80's survived it to warn future generations!

The driver of the car you were filming faces a small fine for not using a seatbelt for their child - you on the other hand face being prosecuted for driving without due care and attention. You have already stated that you didn't film it in order to report it to the police, so I'm afraid what you have done is no worse than the driver in front. If a child had run out in front of your car while you were filming, your attention would not have been fully on the road.
OP, I know your intentions were good, but legally what you have done is just as bad as the driver in front.

....would have been if she didn't have hands free... ;)

now i'm not 100% sure but I'm sure if it is an emergency you can use your mobile, I've done it when i saw a woman and man argueing in a car and when she jumped out at traffic lights he got out and dragged her back in by her hair!! i was told then it was ok as it was emergency call.

I used to love trying to stay on the wheel arches of my dad's transit when he braked sharp and went round the corners too fast. Good times.
