Filmed this tonight - absolutely disgusted!

it would only fall under careless driving and would only see the same punishment as mobile phone use (a couple points and small fine). But to put that in perspective, selecting and lighting a cigarette whilst driving would result in the same punishment.

EDIT - I'm getting really into this now, the law is interesting!
The Crown Prosecution Service states -
In the absence of any explanation by the defendant, if the only conclusion which is possible to draw is that the defendant was negligent or had departed from what a reasonably prudent and confident driver would have done in the circumstances, a court should convict.

Hmmm, i think i'm safe ;)

LOL!! OH has just read this (a Police Traffic Sergeant for a lot of years - now a custody serg - who has dealt with a number of fatal collisions - some of which involved mobile phone usage). His comment - "Good luck in court - she'll need it". Apparently handheld mobile phones are to be used when driving only to call 999 or 112 (the alternative 999 number) in the case of an emergency and where it would be impossible or impracticable to stop - I actually didn't know that either! :)

Am I the only person that thinks if you have an issue with other peoples behaviour, then either phone the police it, film it and hand it to the police - or dont do it.

Uploading to youtube and then posting on a forum about it without reporting it seems very odd way of trying to protect the children/address the behaviour, just a form of gossiping about how awful other people are and how bad parents they are?

If the behaviour you see is so wrong, film AND report it. If its not, keep driving and leave the camera in the glovebox as there are rules about filming people without their knowledge esp children...

I might be the only one tho....:-)

You're not the only one, I totally agree with you.

It's a vid of a child in the boot/back seat area of a car being left to climb all over - not belted up or anything......

Thanks Holly Hocks. It's not that uncommon to see children loose in cars, sadly. However filming it and posting it on a horse forum seems an odd thing to do, PMP!

I don't think it odd at all. Wanted to raise awareness of child safety in cars and a horse forum is the only social network I use. I am going to send the clip to my solicitor and see what he thinks. :)

What will really make you giggle is that I posted these last few messages whilst being I'm control of half a tonne of equine! Lol

I witness a clear crime, take my initiative to have it recorded (very briefly at very low speed!) and then get shot down in flames for 'gossiping' and driving carelessly.

Next time i see someone breaking the law then I think i'll just ignore it and let the world go to s**t

actually, this should read 'I witness a clear crime, then commit one myself by operating video recording device whilst driving, therefore driving without due care and attention. I then get high and mighty about it on the Internet.'

Sadly, you can go for a drive round the corner to a local shop and witness tens of people breaking the law in a variety of ways such as speeding, mobile phone use, no seatbelts etc. if you feel that strongly about it, apply to the police force and stop being a vigilante, it's SO passé :D

You must admit the 'shot down in flames' bit was funny though, why can't people simply disagree any more without all the drama queen references? Not just aimed at you OP, a general musing as I've spent too much time on here recently :D

Just to illustrate how dangerous loose children in a car are you should look at the front page of the Bristol Evening Post tonight. A two year died after falling out of a car. The driver said she heard the click of the seat belt undoing and as she pulled over the child undid the door. Whatever the circumstances it's tragic for the child.

That is very sad. I'm not making any assumptions but would a two year not still be in special child seat at that age? Which I thought were fairly difficult to get out of? ie, those separate straps that go over the individual shoulders and then clip to the middle/waist bit of the chair seat? Unless the child was just in a normal seat belt in the back which at that size/age would be easy to get out of/slip out of? RIP little one.

It shouldn't be possible for a two year old to undo a childseat, but some kids are escapologists. Good reason to always have the child locks switched on on the doors. :(

Bearing in mind that parents are not allowed to film their kids during school activities because of fear of paedophiles, I would think OP is on a sticky wicket if the video has been put on a public forum!

Oh dear. I always used to sit in the boot when I was a youngster. They also used to chuck us in the back of the van because it didn't have enough seats for all of us. Oops!
