Thank you everyone, I really appreciate how helpful, emphatic and friendly you have all been as a newbie it's always nice to feel welcome!

So I think the answer to my question is that no one really stables a yearling and it's quite normal for them to be messy. Unfortunately in the real world where I actually have no control over the yard owner and cannot move yards due to a variety of reasons your opinions are really unhelpful!

Get the horse gelded and find him turnout simples you are being extremely cruel keeping a yearling in 24-7, and if you can't see that you shouldn't have a horse

My first youngster had to spend 3 months on box rest after a nasty laceration as a yearling. She was absolutely VILE by the time we were done. She was bored, angry, frustrated and wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.
I had to chuck her out into a large herd and not even touch her for months before she would speak to me again.

It really messes them up OP.

When I was working as a groom, we had a youngster. Not a colt. But he had to be stables for months and months due to a leg injury. He was so angry and unpredictable, he used to try and bite you as you walked past the stable. Really lunged at you. Even when he was eventually turned out , he was still vile. I wouldn’t go on the field
