Hello!!

I am going to insure my 3yo filly, and need to decide asap! I have had quotes from Petplan, SEIB and KBIS. All relatively comparable, but SEIB having the highest excess on the vets fees.
I am looking to (hopefully) stay with them long term, so does anyone have any advice on who to go with, and who are most reliable in terms of both paying out should there be a problem and also their renewal fees?

Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks in advance :)

Best advice is don't consider staying with an insurance company for a long time. Non of the companies reward loyalty. There is no 'No Claims Bonus' with horse insurance. Just go with a reliable company that offers the cover you want at the most competative price. :)

I'm with Shearwater and they have been fantastic. They even paid out for an MRI - no quibbles - fast, friendly, efficient.
SEIB and KBIS are good - I've never been insured with them as they've always been more expensive - same goes for NFU
I have been with PetPlan - no better than the others just more expensive
I've also been with Horse and Rider Insurance Direct who were good and paid out well

You really have to balance up pros-cons with the top lot. They are all good - just compare what they are offering you and what's in the small print.

Also if you have BHS gold membership there are some bits on your horse insurance that you might not need etc

I have just moved from NFU due to their huge rise in premiums, I went with KBIS as I was impressed with them on the phone, and from the comments on here.

I can recommend Petplan, although having not claimed personally they have been great for friends that have.

I had two horses insured, one with NFU and one with Petplan, when they came up for renewal in March Petplan policy increased by under £1 a month, NFU policy by just over £10 a month!!

Thank you all for your replies. In fairness, I hadn't really thought of the fact that many don't reward loyalty,so best to shop around at the end of the the first year.
Just that I want to get her insured now as a youngster, bearing in mind the scrapes they can get themselves in to, and my last girly I struggle to get cover for (veteran with a list of ailments bless her), so don't want to be caught out again!

May need to may to make a couple more calls....!!! :)

I've been with petpkan for 5yrs now and have made 5 claims, all paid out quickly and without question. And just had this yrs renewal through and it wad less than i was expecting :)

KBIS are really good. They paid out 6k on my last horse when she kept getting colic, had lots of investigations and eventually died :(.
They now cover up to 8k for colic surgery which is really good I think.
They always answer phone on the first ring and pay out the same day a claim is covered. They are really nice on the phone too and I ended up speaking to the same 2 girls when my mare was poorly, they were really sympathetic.
I think they are quite black and White with what is covered, if something is excluded it's properly excluded and if something is covered they pay straight away no quibble or trying to worm out of it. I really like dealing with them :).
