After much time and money wasted on travelling to see horses that were certainly not as described to say the least and with a few failed vettings I have finally found my perfect little princess and wanted to share my excitement with everyone. She is a beautiful almost black 15.3 rising 6 Hanoverian. She is careful patient and affectionate. I have been to see her and ride her numerous times at her current yard and am going to spend the weekend with her again before she is delivered next week. I am just struggling to find a yard which I think has good enough facilities, grazing and stabling for my perfect little princess!

Where she is stabled now has a lovely generously sized arena with ample jumps, excellent pristine open and airy stabling and all the grazing she could ever want....

I have been to see a few yards in my area one in particular which couples as a riding school I was absolutely appalled at the stabling despite the facilities being excellent (ample turnout, horse walker, indoor/outdoor school, xc course, good hacking) 15h plus were being stabled in dark dingy dirty stables barely big enough for an 11h pony to turn around in. THERE IS NO WAY SHE WILL BE GOING THERE!

My problem is that I am only just back into riding after many years out of the saddle. I am by no means scared of the horses... its what other people think of my riding that I am scared of so I am also looking for a nice friendly yard where people will pretty much leave me to my own devices or offer friendly advice rather than bitching and having eyes burning through me constantly.

There are other yards with excellent facilities and stabling but poor turnout. I just want the whole package!

I do have my own land and stabling and my dad is happy to install me an arena (alternatively there is one available to me 200m up the road) but she would have no company there. This is my favourite option but she would be alone unless her current owners decide to sell her full sister also!
 
Certainly something I have considered I am just worried that she is coming from a yard of 15 or more horses so don't know how she would be in such a small herd but then at the same time i don't like the Idea of her being turned out in a large herd x
 
We recently moved our 2 horses to our own place and they had been at a yard with 30+ horses, we bought a little shetland for extra company and they are all very happy, they are turned out individually as well due to my pony being a bully and the big horsey playing a bit too rough with the shetland! We were worried about them but they seem, if possible, more relaxed with the 3 of them, and at least we know we can look after them the way we feel is best with our own land and stables- its a great feeling :)
 
I know what you mean about feeling people are watching, although I think it's mostly in our heads unless you are unfortunate to get somewhere really bitchy!

Is there someone else who could come and share your grazing at home or would that be too much hassle? As others said you could just get a small pony for company (thousands in rescue I'm sure!) I'm sure she would adapt OK, or you could get another pony... and another and another just kidding :-D

I am in two minds for when I find a horse about going onto the nice small livery I have found, or finding local grazing which would undoubtedly be cheaper rent and I don't see the need for a stable especially as the nice weather is coming in! Hard to find anywhere though!
 
We bought a new mare for my daughter 2 weeks ago. She came from a yard with 60 horses to our smallholding with my RID mare , pigs and sheep for company. She's settled in from day 1 and is such a lovely girl. I'd certainly sugest havig her at home but perhaps look for someone with a nice mannered horse to livery with you. That way you'll have someone to chat to, hack out with and take over for holiday sickness care if needed.
 
Hi, I have too have come back to riding after a 20yr break. My boy came from a big yard to my own. I have got 2 little ponies for company and have no trouble at all. It can get a bit lonely when you want to discuss things and want some advise, but I have met some lovely, generous people, some through this forum, some through riding clubs and associations, some from just going to events who are always at the end of the phone and we even meet up for hacks etc. The only downside is not having the full facilities, would love an arena but not possible at the moment.

I would rather be on my own were the atmosphere is relaxed than a busy yard any day. I always find big yards are bitchy and always have a tense atmosphere.
