Well, firstly its just one vid as they are taking AGES to upload to facebook/youtube.

Took Delicia to Angley Stud today, after hiring out their indoor 60mx40m sand school. I knew today wsa going to be a hot one and as i need to work on dees canter/extended trot i didnt want her being too hot, so schook was booked for midday (earliest i could get it!) and off we went. Got there with plenty of time to spare, dee decided she didnt want me on her back, took 10 minutes to mount her, naughty pony...

I have never really trained delicias trot. Her extensions are so natural i have never needed to train them. But as we are going up the levels, she needs more cadence and finese about her extended trot so i have slowly started trying to train it. Delicia is a very naturally hot horse with an enormous engine behind her, she is prone to loosing confidence and shuting herself off to my aids.

I was very pleased with her today, her canter is definetly coming (video to follow!) but she still overboils in her extended trot.

So....finally....here is a video

And yes, it is very bouncy!

cc welcome. She over boiled in the second extension, there was too much power... but she is still baby like. Please remember my leg issues when CCing.

Wow, and i think you have a huge amount more of lift/extension to come, I think if you gave her a bit more rein, as she is very behind the vertical and got your self sat up more you would get the more power.
With the over boiling can you half halt/slow your rising down a tad to get her back on her hocks and free up the fron end.

PS. GOOD LUCK trying to sit to that one :D

HAHA never going to be able to sit to that!

I need to trust her more but even if i give her the rein she can still go BTV. Having said that, she has improved loads from where she was. So we are headed in the right direction.

I have terrible leg/hip/pelvis and lower back problems lately but i am trying to rectify these with physio and sitting more upright through my ribcage and stomach.

It is a fabulous extended trot.Great knee action too. Lucky you!
Have you tried schooling to music. Many riders find it can help settle and focus a 'hot' horse and its a great way to help us riders with cadence and rhythm. Look for a piece of music that has a relaxed beat that matches Delicia's tempo and you might find she picks up on it and allows you to let her out in front a bit more.
I look forward to the canter video.
:)

You can see she has a lot of talent but you seem to be trying to control her power coming from the back by grabbing her in front to try and steady her out instead of working on her balance and getting her sat down behind to control the power. If that makes any sort of sense. Less hand more lift in front and sat down behind is what Im trying to say Haha. Lovely horse.

Ok, I'm not saying I'm any good at CC or any good at riding, but the things that stood out to me were:

The trot - is it just the video or is she actually going about 100mph?! She looks like she has so much power she doesn't know what to do with it (no bad thing!) I would probably be trying to calm it down by collecting more on the corner (voltes might help) and then gently letting her go for a few strides. Collect again before she starts to lose it. It looks like you have a lot of natural talent to work with!

The canter - looks pretty settled but you looked to be bracing against her and tipping forward in the downwards transitions - I'm not sure if this stems from your leg issues? That was the only thing that stood out to me though, it looks like you have a good lid on the hotness in the canter and are riding tactfully.

I absolutely love Delicia, nice to see some vids of you both! You ride very nicely :)

very well worded, to be fair you have to ride her tactfully otherwise she rears and explodes. There is too much power. I think its the video at times but she has a huge stride so sometimes looks faster then she is. Im not bracing in the canter as such, i sit funny due to my leg (cant feel another from abouit7-8 inchcs from my hip down. I have a chronic back back and pelvis at the moment so am quite tight through my muscles there.

She wasnt really working with me today as i havent ridden a;ll week, but she will be better tomorrow and less mare like :P

If that's her not really working with you, I'd love to see her when she is! I'm sure she's stunning when you manage to harness all that energy and power AND brain! :)

nope, no brain here :P

You need to get her working/ collected trot more balanced b4 going for extension I think it needs to be more gradual as you are getting canter at the back ATM... She is running thru her outside shoulder at the mo so get that undercontrol and her trot will improve no end... Keep it up!

She is stunning :) .

Agree that she has more to give but at the mo is rushing (in fact almost cantering with back legs on a few strides) when she understands how to harness that power she'll be amazing.
