IF this was a tabloid title we'd see in the first sentence that Cudo was ready to rip down the barn for "stealing" his fans. :D:p:D:p It might actually be true though!! LOL.

Well after 2 years a lot of various setbacks (The worst 3 cases of hives, hole in his foot, fungus, Covid) Chad finally got to participate in a jumper show in the USA. We only did 3 classes at 0.70m. But it was a good first experience.

The day before we did another XC school as he has a (very) low level event coming up on 10/31.

I also created a FB page for Chad and will put the link here for anyone who wants to follow.:

FB post from Show with pics and a short video clip:

Fb Post with XC pics from Saturday:

I'm sorry I'm a little quiet today as I kept promising myself that I would post something here and now it's the last 10 mins of my lunchbreak... So I am rushed.

Enjoy!!

Looking fab! I remember reading on here when you bought him, must be lovely to finally get him out competing.

@Branna I honestly don't know if I ever believed we'd get to a competition. :D

That poor horse had so much go wrong last year, he battled with hives/reactions to the American grass and hay multiple times. He put a hole in his hoof and spent 5 days at the hospital, got better started riding again then the hives returned. Rested and beat them again and then he got a fungus that made his whole face above his eyes bald. At that point I gave up on 2019 and said "Well, 2020 will be your year" but then came Covid.

Admittedly it was my own choice to not ride this year until July, but still I am indeed DELIGHTED that Chad has finally gotten to go to a show and not just schooling outings. And I'm very proud of the performance he put in given his education and lack of solid training.

Hi BG,

Great news that Chad has been out competing, and the photos of the XC training are super - he's really stunning!! ? I was driving past the farm where (I'm pretty sure) Cudo came from in County Durham the other day and was wondering how he was getting on, so fingers crossed he's doing well along with his stable buddy Chad!!

Also, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I just wondered how Covid is affecting your region of the US, and your travelling and competing?

We have regions over here with stricter localised restrictions to hopefully prevent a full Lockdown. We do hear about how New York is coping with Covid on our news over here, but not much about other regions.

Hi @Northern Hare !!

So Cudo is doing fine. Has done some shows but we're spacing them apart and working on a lot of conditioning, strength stuff and really working to get the tiny details smoother over more. Quicker changes, better lateral work more fitness....etc.

Covid is interesting right now. We are seeing the fall surge starting in various areas. The rates are climbing. The election is making finding solid accurate news a touch hard because there's (As I am sure you all have noticed) a lot of divisiveness in the country at the moment.

The shows I have gone to were Covid "friendly" shows. VERY small classes. Must wear masks when not mounted. Scheduled heavily so that at Chad's show Sunday, ONLY the horse's in his division were on the grounds at that time. We had a ship in by time and a kind of wave and go home once you were done.

The event we're going to on the 31st will be more interesting to see how they run things.

The USEF has people patrolling at shows and if there are enough mask refusers, they will kick you out or all out cancel the show. That threat has worked a bit, but the biggest shows with the biggest people are still having some non-compliance issues. I am not at them though.

The one little puissance show we did was awesome as my friends who run it made tailgating spots around the ring and everyone stayed in their pod by their car. Plus that meant spectators and applause. Quite a kick.

You can see it on Cudo's video that I am including below.

Cudo came from Penshaw Equestrian Center. Not sure if that's where you drove by. It belongs to his former owner's aunt.

Hi BunnyDog!

Thanks very much for your reply yesterday, it was great to hear all about how the US show circuit are managing with the COVID restrictions. Thanks also for the video of Cudo’s Puissance class - he’s looking on terrific form! You’ve got two smashing horses - are you planning on any further UK horse shopping missions?

Btw, we live in a UK County called Northumberland, which is to the north of County Durham. We live close to a Roman wall called Hadrians Wall, which runs east to west just below the Scottish Border. We are about 25 miles from Cudo’s previous home at Penshaw Equestrian Centre! I suspect that Cudo won’t be missing the North East’s weather, which can be quite chilly in the winter!

There are three COVID Tiers in the UK, “Medium” / “High” and Very High. The North East is currently classed as High, which means among other restrictions, we can’t socialise inside with other households. Some equestrian events are able to continue, but like with you in the US, the shows are very well organised with strict timings, and mainly no spectators.

Well, great to hear how Chad and Cudo are getting on, and good luck at your upcoming events! ?

@Northern Hare

So funny thing about putting on a local Puissance class...sometimes it's not quite exciting enough so folks make it more so.

In my head I was planning to withdraw around 4'6" (1.355m)

Round 1, we all started at 3'8" so 1.105 m (Had to add an extra numeral to get it right)

Cudo jumped it easy.

Round 2 they put it to 1.20m.

Cudo, and everyone else jumped it easy.

So for round 3 the show folks decided to make it exciting.

They took the wall from 1.20m to 1.50m ...an entire foot in 1 round.

Myself and another rider implored the organizers to rethink this, but ultimately other competitors were not as put off by it as I was.

So I jumped the other 3 fences in the ring (All between 1.30 and 1.40) and pulled up and refused to present him. I stopped in front of the announcer and explained that my horse was not being asked to jump that height. I got applause, waved to the crowd and walked out of the ring.

To be clear I am sure he'd have been fine, but 2 months of being back to work, almost to the day, was NOT enough for me to risk his legs, soft tissue and joints, as he has some covid pounds on him!! LOL.

We walked out happy. And I think 4 other folks that had no problem with the height took that sucker down hard.

They had a final result of a 3 way tie for the win at 1.60m.

Attached is our measly 1.20m Wall pic.

Based on that description I live within a few miles of you @Northern Hare. I assume I know you IRL *waves* :)
