8 1/2 weeks after my horse first went slightly lame on a circle and had been getting steadily worse, after nerve blocks and xrays around the pastern joint and the vets 1 week holiday and with a small abscess then a lovely set of heart bars he has been diagnosed with a tweak to the medial branch of his suspensory ligament. He's had shockwave this evening then every 2 weeks for the next 6 weeks. Typically this comes just after my other horse has finished his shockwave also for a suspensory tweak (long story with a particular farrier, foot balance and have now changed farrier). Feeling a bit

as to why this is happening. Vet reckons competition fit in 5-6 months - not sure BE will put anything on round christmas tho.

Ahh poor you, we two have one on rest with PSD in hinds and fragmentation of front navicular bone. Loan horse has been on box rest for two weeks with swollen pastern, he is being Xrayed on Monday. I always try and think best to get the crap times out of the way all in one go and next year might just be our year for fun! x

Aw hugs hun my lad got PSD shortly after i got him on loan and that was 5/6 years ago and he is now on his last year of major comps. Not because he has anything wrong with him just now he is 15 and gets a bit creaky in the back legs during the winter his owner has decided to take things easy with him.

As i said he came out of shock wave and all that jazz fine and had qualified for loads of things and done county level comps etc and we have never had a problem with him since the injury.

They do come out of it fine,we just found we have been very over catious warming up and cooling down etc.

what a shame but i guess it is good you finally have a diagnosis?
my boy was diagnosed with the same, medial suspensory desmitis at the end of June last year. he also had shwockwave therapy with a long period of box rest and controlled exercise. i gave him a lot longer than the vet originally advised before i started to bring him back up to event fitness, i started this at the end of March this year after spending a few months just mooching about hacking and then slowly built him up. we are entered for our first BE back next weekend. one thing that has reallly helped him is living out 24/7, something i never thought i'd be able to do with him being an injury prone TB!!
there are plenty of horses that come back from injuries such as this but my advice would be take your time bringing him back, don't rush him. you only get one shot at it, i am always aware that should Andy injure himself again that's his jumping days over and done with..
try and keep your chin up and look forward to the 2010 season!

My horse did this last year plus she also ripped part of the sesamoid bine off. She had about 8 months out in a field and now she is back jumping, she just spent 3 days jumping at Wales & West.

I didn't do Shockwave as I was told it is not very effective on medial branch injuries - there was no point doing it, shockwave is better on injuries higher up the ligament. You may want to check that out before you pay to have it done.

Mine was diagnosed with nerve blocks and then a scan.
