Hey everyone!

Hope everyone has had a good christmas and new year. Havn't been on for a while as have been going through the stress of moving my horse. Some of you might remember I was having problems at my old yard. It was really hard keeping her there, an absolute nightmare. She was turned out 24/7 which for her is not great as she just came down with mud fever all the time and there were no stables or anything. People were rude and hurtful and some people even threw things at my horse and sprayed hose pipe at her head

People would try and do things behind my back like damage my tack, take my horse out without knowing, and there was no routine or anything.

So anyway it was a stressful time. She travelled well. But she is now in a new yard. The people there are so lovely. She has her own stable, and she seems to have settled in ok. She was a bit scared when she came out of the trailor! So walked her around a bit, before putting her in stable. Made it all cosy with hay nets etc and her ball to help her settle. I brought some hay from the old yard as its haylage at new yard. She seems to be eating both happily, but she wont touch the water. I've been putting some in her food and she's eating that so hopefully she willcome round to it in time. I remember at the old yard she wouldn't drink for ages so maybe its just her way.

I still think she thinks we're at a show or competition!! But just wanted to thank everyone on here for pursuading me to move. Its been really daunting but its so worth it. I'm also getting lots of helpful advice at new yard other than "oh she's a chestnut mare and needs a whack" which is great.

Is there anything else you can reccommend to help her settle? How long should I leave it before riding her?

Thanks everyone and sorry for long post

Good for you - yess it is stressful moving give her a couple of days in her new stable then take her out for a walk each day for a couple of days to help her to settle and if she seems ok then tack her and walk about and see what happens - you really have to judge it with her moods and when she is happy then carry on as noral - Good luck

Good news!

I think theres a Bach remedy for stress of moving? could be wrong, but since Rescue Remedy got me back in the saddle I recommend Bach stuff for everything!

Sounds like a good thing you've moved! Hope this yard is a lot better. Don't worry, i'm sure your horse will settle before too long.

When I moved my horse to our current yard (9 years ago when he was 11 ish) he was really scared of everything - didn't want to go into his new stable, eyes were like saucers, looked terrified at feed time with all the noise & hustle & bustle. I went home and cried cos he was so upset. But he did settle over the next few days - I rode him all round the yard the next day & showed him everything. He couldn't be turned out immediately so also just spent quite a bit of time with him so there was someone familiar there.
