I bought her at the end of September, and today she arrived. Unseen, imported from Denmark. In foal. Many will think I’m mad (myself included) but we’re over the moon with her. Not that we have spent much time together yet. It will be a slow journey to get to know each other, won’t ride her for probably a year, but want to build her up so she’s fit to be a mum again. She’s on the lean side and lacking in muscle, but she’s a long term project for me (she’s 8 and I don’t ever plan on selling her).

My Icelandic mare - I have better photos, but they wouldn’t upload as too large.

Aww, she's cute!
You said she's in foal, if the dad is known, is he also Icelandic? Do you plan to keep the foal?
Yes, the father is a four-year-old palomino stallion called Dropi fra Lian. This spring/summer his first foals will be born. Excited to see whether Kvedja’s foal will be palomino as well.

Most Icelandics are bred very deliberately. Not many unknown fathers about! And I can trace my horse’s ancestry back many, many generations. All the information is on WorldFengur.com, a huge database where you can look up hundreds of thousands of Icelandic horses. They each get scores for conformation, their gaits etc too, so very interesting.

Oh she is gorgeous, I've never met an icelandic in person but have always wanted to and have always wanted to try riding one. Please keep us updated on her, especially when she has her foal!!
I will! If you can manage to try one I bet you will enjoy it! Although they’re all individuals, there is something special about them. Very easygoing and brave, a nice size yet strong. Having said that, my mare is smaller than I had anticipated so I’m going to try to lose a few kilos…

Very nice ❤️
Is she 4 or 5 gaited? I got my first Icelandic after I went there on holiday in 1990. Good luck with her, there are loads of people in IHSGB who will give you any advice you need.
She tolts a lot, not sure about her pace. The experts who own the farm said “very gaity” and “very flat back” - we’ll see! 😂😜 I’m a member of the IHSGB and active in the Icelandic Horse Chat UK on Facebook - are you there too?

Yes I am. When you see her running around the field you'll soon see which gaits she likes best.

How did you get her back? I am trying to bring my horse back to the UK from Denmark and it's proving almost impossible to find out if he needs any blood test doing in advance. I don't think you are mad at all, i can't bear to part with my horse. He went with me to Denmark and he is coming back with me. Due to Brexit, though it seems more complicated this time around.

P.s. do you know what is an registered passport or unregistered passport in Denmark by any chance?

If you contact John Parker International they will help you with everything. Just send them an email. It wasn’t that hard, but you will need someone in Denmark to help you organise for the Fødevarestyrelsen to do a vet check. Also you should have up to date tetanus vaccinations.

See above - John Parker International. Very happy with them.

I’ve replied to the other thread but Denmark call a breed passport (so a horse that is stud book registered) a Registered passport and anything passport issued by anyone else is classed by them as an Unregistered passport.
