Finally I'm a horse ownder! Anyone else with an American Saddlebred?

Hi again
Diva (Stonewalls Bourbon Rose was reserve champion Saddlebred at Moreton Morrell. Got our first sash and prizes and the biggest rosette ever. Really pleased with her because she beat a multi-champion stallion despite the fact that we are amateurs and show in normal English tack and style. Judge said that if I had shown her in American style she would have won. Gobsmacked I think is the best way to describe my response.

Then we went to Kenilworth and came 4th out of 4 in a palomino class so feet are firmly back on the ground. They were all beautiful horses though and she was the youngest and least mature in the class - and they were all PBA's.

Three Counties this Sunday where we are doing the in hand palomino and (don't laugh) the ridden palomino. We cantered for the first time .... today. Im sure my little girl will take it all in her stride but if you are there and you see someone trotting round in endless circles rather than cantering that will be me :)

How did Wolf go Esther?

Amazing saddlebred! You've got to get some pics on here.... Unfortunately I can't make the show this sunday :( as its my husbands birthday. Let me know where else you're going tho.
Well done again.

Still haven't got any decent photos on Flickr to show you. They are all on my phone or on facebook.

Update from Three Counties is that my girl is FAB though. She was 4th out of 7 in the in hand which is expected as an "unusual" breed but she didn't put a foot wrong all day.

I went in the ridden and cantered on both reins with no incidents whatsoever. Bearing in mind that we only cantered once before and that was earlier that week I was very, very pleased with her. I am sure it didn't look too great but hey ho - we were boosting the numbers for the Palomino Society :)

We rode in the main ring in between a course of 3ft + showjumps and Diva did not bat an eye at anything whatsoever. Judge was very complimentary about her.

Very happy mummy :)

Well done saddlebred! Will keep a lookout for pics.

Anyone going to the Highstead saddlebred show nr Canterbury, Kent in August? I'm going, although just as a spectator this year!

Years ago, I owned a saddlebred, Roundhills Fying Phantom was his full name.
He had a very unique personality, but had huge issues with his sight, and although we did back him, he was never really safe to hack out as the sight was quite poor and really worried him.
He moved, well floated, like a dream. Sadly, never showed him due to the sight issues.

I wanted a saddlebred way back in 1978 and I finally bought a little mare in June last year. She was in foal and after all those years I now have two lovely coloured saddlebreds. They are cheeky, clever, naughty in a nice way and totally fearless. I hope you enjoy your horse as much as I am enjoying mine. My mare is five and as yet unbroken, that adventure is yet to come.

New here and just wanted to raise hand and say I have one. ;) I love all different types of horses but this is the breed that 'does it' for me.

Mine does dressage, but if you want to see some of the best of the show types, the World Championships is being live webcast. Tonight and tomorrow night are the last nights to catch it. Fun to watch.

Have fun with your new horse!

The US National Show Horse - Breed Registry - is the result of a cross between an Arabian and saddebred.
They still make up the majority of horses that compete in part bred Arabian classes over here thought the warmblood x Arabian is likely to take over in popularity
I've ridden quite a few and cant say that they were at all fiery or even energetic though

Only just seen this :) I have a pure bred & two part breds, Wonderful horses!!! My purebred is Spellbound Amigo & my PBs are Helperic Valentino R & Roundhills Golden Ginger :)

Any photos Gingernuts?
Apparently the winner of Equifest worlds breeds class this year was a Saddlebred - does anyone know who it is, and I was also interested to know if it was ridden Saddleseat or English style?
I've rode Happy yesterday for the first time in 8 weeks, she's been off due to school holidays, and she was fab - a little fat and unfit tho!

Hello all. I don't post on here very often. Hi Judith :) cb06 what is the name and breeding of your horse? and ditto the lady with the two coloureds - did you buy one of the Kolorkade horses mares that was for sale?

I haven't seen the Equifest results but there haven't been many saddlebreds out and about this year so I would guess at Kumala Champagne? Cant find any Equifest results.

Happy sounds like a star. My purebred palomino Diva had 4 weeks off this summer due to a virus and was perfect as well - and as she is a newly ridden 4 year old I was very pleased with her. Saddlebreds are fab riding horses :)

Hello Saddlebred, I bought my pregnant mare from a lady called rosemary jinks. Didn't see the Kolorcade ads until afterwards. My mare is a half sister to Kolorcade's Even Better than Worse. Her filly foal is now a yearling and almost as big as her mum. She is going to be much bigger than her mum i think.
The mare is Sheza Cadilac Dancer, by the stallion Even Worse and out of the mare Chez Cadillac Style. The yearling is by a stallion called Seventeen Seventy Six

I saw two saddlers by Champagne in Kent last month, I met Lynn Jarvis the owner and very active in the Saddler show world, she recommended Equifest to me for next year but its a bit far for my then 3 year old to travel so will try some local shows first and see how she takes to it.

Just on another note what are your saddler Xs in saddle wise? My x sec d is looking rather flat backed but with quite high withers but long bodied. Was looking at the thorowgood t4s as a possibility as I had better get saving now! Will of course get a fitter out though.

Hi All, congrats to everyone for taking pride in their Saddlbreds! I love them so much I went into breeding them and was fortunate last year to breed the only black & white purebred currently in the the UK. This year I've had a stunning brown & white with spots as well patches (potential future stud stallion as could be homozygous) and have one due in another few weeks. I find them to be intelligent and loyal, they are easy to back as they are so willing to please and clever enough to figure out what you require and why! Deffo the breed for me - I'll never look at any other!

I love my pair of coloureds to bits, the mare is a bright bay tobiano with spots as well a patches. Her yearling filly is a dark bay tobiano (looks black from a distance) she also has spots as well as patches. Will be backing the mare soon!!

Is that the mare from Rosemary? I know her, her name used to be Dottie, I've transported her in the past. Her breeder is a good friend of mine. I'd love to see photos of her and her foal! Her Sire, Even Worse, is a top Trec stallion.

Yes that's her, she is a little star. Travels like a dream. I'll try to post pics but i'm not great with technology. Rosemary must have changed her name cos now she is Maddie (sheza cadilac dancer) her daughter is called pearl because of the black spots in her white patches posh name is Flashdance of Liongait. Hope to show next year finances permitting. Pearl's daddy is Rosemary's stallion Seventeen Seventy Six.

Bit of a swizz as I don't own one, but I too have very fond memories of training and riding Saddlebreds in the US. I trained them for pure dressage and they were ALL such lovely, willing try-hard horses; I'd have another in a heartbeat. Good luck with all your horses, I bet you have a blast.

Hello saddlebred, sorry for the delay, just saw this. My horse came with the registered name "Revelation's First Prophet"...not my favorite, but can't change it. His barn name is Will. He is by Winsdown's Hi Octane and out of a mare by Splendid Dictator. However, his dam side goes back to Bobby Sea. I believe he gets his 'sportyness' and dressage talent from his sire, Hi Octane, and the Bobby Sea line is also known to throw good sport types. After only 2 yrs of dressage training, he is showning 3rd level this year with scores in the 60's and qualified for regionals...very happy with his progress...plus he is so fun and personable to ride and be around. Glad to see others enjoying this breed. :)

Wolf's in a Heather Moffet SBS at the moment:

I doubt it will be his forever saddle but until he stops growing and I know what shape he will end up at, it will do. Plus it gives us something a bit more conventional looking if we do ever want to dip our toes into the conventional horse world. But yeah, that long wide back may prove problematic when we do look for our final saddle. He is very round......
