Hello and good morning to everyone. I have read this forum for the past 2/3 years and finally after many times thinking ooo I could share my experience of this or that enquiry, I spent this weekend facing my naturally technophobe tendencies and registered to post.
I am a Yorkshire rose transplanted in Scotland (Central) with husband and teenager. Started riding aged 5 (Laine Moores Sykehouse/Fishlake) and had own ponies/horses until left for uni. Managed to keep riding whilst at uni and whilst working in London and then a fall broke my back and husband very reluctant for me to return to dangerous sport (he had planned where wheelchair ramps would go in house whilst I was hospitalised). So packed everything away - concentrated on career and we moved steadily northwards from London..Lincolnshire...Yorkshire...Scotland. Had daughter and never really discussed horses but she pestered and begged and finally OH agreed she could learn to ride.
For two years I was strong and watched from the sidelines and just enjoyed stable atmosphere...but one day I saw beautiful mare on yard and she was for sale but I realised I hadn't ridden for 15 years so tentatively mentioned going back to it and OH didn't say no ..so..I started back and started reading H&H forum posts. My instructor was great and we took it steadily. I didn't buy that mare but she was the catalyst. I was fast approaching my half century and I had a discussion with OH along the lines of if I don't return to the horsey lifestyle now I might regret it, Im only getting older etc etc and we agreed that I could look for a horse and it would be my 50th birthday present (and all those that follow and every Xmas gift...)
I knew I wasn't up to riding the thoroughbreds and warmbloods of my youth so searched for six months or so trying out at dealers/breeders and private seller. I found my mare 18 months ago - tried her in the most awful wind and rain and she was great - she passed 5 stage vetting with flying colours and the deal was done. OH is not horsey but loves my mare and has been superb fitting stable mats - moving and cleaning them - stacking hay - buying trailer and having towing bracket fitted to his 4x4. Daughter has been wonderful working hard helping me daily and now I see what people mean on here when they say once you start owning horses..they kind of multiply....Daughter worked on her daddy and he agreed she could have her own pony(small horse). This was harder to search for and possibly we haven't made absolutely the right decision but daughters gelding moved in at Christmas last year and she loves him despite some issues we are working through.
Throughout my journey I have read the posts on here - they have made me laugh, cry, informed me and I have identified with so many posters and comments. So having managed to post I will study how to customise my entries and how to post photos of ponies...don't hold breath I really am inept at this technological stuff!
If you have spared time to read this - thank you.
