I sold Oliver in my sig 4 months ago and have had trials and tribulations along the way (as some of you will know) BUT finally I can share with you my new horse Redpath Ranger (Gino) :D Shils can take a deep breath of relief as he is not a cob :p

Seeing my paddocks empty except for my boys pony Rose has been so hard, looking at my sand school from the house everyday unused has been depressing but I really think my new boy will be worth the time without a horse :)

Gino is 17.3h 6 years old (Randi x Giorgione)

Ohhh Weezy you have no idea how excited I am to have him shipped over to me! In the end I had two vettings done (I cant go into details for legal reasons, lets just say it was complicated). Today Gino flew through his 5 stage, due to the 2 vettings it has taken ages before I placed the deposit. After having him professionally tried for me, lots of HHOers input plus two vettings he just has to be 'the one'.

How on earth am I going to get through the next few weeks? Well I suppose the farm move will keep me busy:)

Ohhh wow, he looks super! He's an absolute giant though! But he looks very sweet and honest, so i'm sure you will hardly notice his height once you acclimatise to the air up there :D

Not yet PF, we are getting the move out of the way then having him brought over. The owner is relaxed about it all, in her words he has been here 5 and a half years so another few weeks makes no difference. The seller is really lovely and has been so kind and patient with me.

Thank you, everyone has been so supportive! The 2 vettings was a nightmare, I can't go into the first but I knew something was off. Without going further into it he passed a 5 stage on the day then a week later the vet decided to fail him for bizarre reasons we cannot fathom...Many problems and confusion later I decided I did not want to miss out and walk away so arranged another full vetting with a different practise and he flew through all fine. I am sooo glad I spent the extra money and used up more patience. I have been so careful on this buy, had all history checked (vets records, physio file & BSJA records) talk about cautious ;)

I am a little 'hmm' about his height but then although I am not so tall at 5ft 7 I do ride very long and I am ermm chunkily built, the up side is that my husband at 6ft 4 can ride him also:) I am sure I will get use to it even if I feel a little wobbly to begin with. I rode a 17.2h ID draft at my sisters yard a few years ago and it was not so bad up there.

I don't think you can be too cautious when buying a horse, especially (like in my circumstances) when you need something safe!

I'm sure you'll get used to his height, I was worried about 16.3hh (although that's short compared to Gino!) and now he just feels normal (I've been around a 15.1hh cob and 12.2hh pony for the last 7 years so he seemed massive) so I'm sure once you've had him a while he'll feel "normal" too!

Can't wait to see lots of piccies when he finally comes home!

I thought hmm 17.2h as he was advertised as that but upon looking at his BSJA record he is recorded as 180.3cm which converts to 17.3h and then I was a bit more HMMMm but everyone I have spoken to so far has said he is incredibly quiet with perfect manners. The lady who tried him for me said he does not have big paces to ride to and actually feels more normal sized when he is ridden. I must admit the first few times I will be moist on my brow and a bit nervous, body protector and a few gins and I will be fine ;)

Pics...This is Vixxy lol, there will be no shortage of photos that is for sure :D

ooooh how gorgeous! he is mahoosive! 15.2hh is my limit, but he is just lovely. I got my new horse last week too - its very exciting isnt it:D congrats, i wish you all the very best with him:)

Congrats, he's beautiful... And don't worry about the height thing... as a 17 year old I was given (in strange circumstanses) a 17.2 gelderlander cross (Ie huge) with HUGE movement and I thought 'flippin 'eck' the first time I got on (I was a lot more polite back them:D) - I'd only ever ridden ponies up til then... It took me 3 months just to be able to RISE to his trot... but 17 years on we've done everything together and he's enjoying his semi retirement...

You'll have a ball....

Ahh that is a nice story to read! Thank goodness he is not a big mover, I am sure after I get to know him and a few rides I will feel ok on him and not look back.

When he comes off the lorry with John Parkers at Oslo I am sure his size will then compute in my head, I am a little nervous about the first ride as he will be either on the lorry or stabled for nearly 7 days, and obviously not worked. I think there will be a few days of lunging and loose schooling before I jump on top :o
