So Mr Feral Freddie moves with us to a new home away from his herd and he turns into a lovely quiet person, and as most of you know I have been waiting for this day!
Anyway when we first moved him we put him in with a TB mare who turned coltish and we seperated them within 1 day, Mare calmed down, Freddie came to us as his contact point and we capatalised on his vulnerability, and have done lots with him....... 2 days ago the TB has lost condition, so we wanted to put her in the field next to Freddie which had lots of grass, so we moved her and she was very wild, trying to break through the fence, anyway next morning she had broken into the field with him and all was well, they were even grooming each other a little bit, shes still a little squealy but they are obviously becoming attached, yesterday we went to the field and had to catch him rather than him coming running to us (we understand this is normal as he now has a friend) but he did his little session with us good as gold in the yard, finishing up as usual in his stable for a feed then back up to field.
Today we caught him and he didn't want to leave field again understandable he now has a friend, but he did leave, we bridled him, saddled him, spent literally 5 mins playing halts and walks etc, tied him up, all was perfect, then popped him in the stable for a feed, and he was running around in circles, his blood completely up (he can see the mare in the field above the house) and he wasn't eating, generally full of adrenalin, he then did a rear by the door, so we quickly told him off and went in to halter him and he tried rearing as we opened the door, obviously attempting to jump the door, he got told off and made to go back , we haltered him, made him wait while the door was opened and walked him around did a couple more commands and back up to the field, where he was reunited with the mare.
Our immediate thought is arghhhhhhhhhhhh he was fine until he had a friend!! Shall we split them up again as was harmony before then.... but my 2nd thought is he needs to learn!
Whats your general thoughts?? And advice re stable... anti weave grill?
Thanks in advance
