I have been looking for a trailer and keep thinking about buying a 3.5t horsebox instead. I know you hear horror stories about them, but we regularly hire one and my gelding travels well in one (plus would get full height partition and grills in it).

Just wondered if people could recommend a finance company and give me an idea of insurance costs and who to insure with?

No one? There are loads of you out there with 3.5t lorrys - will no one give me an idea of insurance costs, or companies to go with and I'll ring for a quote?

And some of you must have got them on finance!

Do not under any circumstnces use a form of finance called a Bill of Sale or a Log Book Loan - they are really awful things.

I bought my lorry on my interest free credit card and I am insured with Shearwater. Just google horsebox insurance and call around for a qoute.

I only bought one last week and have insured with South Essex who I thought did a fab deal £25 a month with emergency breakdown to collect horses etc. My jeep and trailer insurance combined was £118 per month!
I saved so I didnt have to get finance and used the money from selling my trailer and jeep too.
If I had needed to get finance I think I would be tempted to get a personal loan from Sainsburys - my OH is a financial advisor and he says that they have been doing the best rates of late.
Try using moneysupermarket.com and then you can compare the whole market.

My insurance with breakdown cover is about £350 annually on a 2005 box, with 2009 coachbuilt body on it. Insured for £14k.
I borrowed the money form my bank they ahd the best rate, as I am staff I get a discount, but your own bank will often give you a good deal as they know your financial history.
