Hey all

Just wondering how much H&H members think is a reasonable amount to pay for a ‘sharer’. Able to ride 3 times a week but mainly hacking due to limitations of horse. Could do a limited amount of work in arena/ poles and as much liberty/ in hand as they like. No jumping.
No yard jobs whatsoever and a lot of flexibility on days to ride.

£25/£30 per week x

Work out the monthly cost of ownership and dividend that by 30, multiply by the number of sessions per week/month and go from there.

I paid £25/30 for a share nearly 20 years ago so that seems a bit low.

My friend charges her riders/sharers £75 per month. They get to ride 2 or 3 times a week, but are expected to poo pick and clean tack on their days. She doesn't have facilities and her fields are steep hills so no riding at home all hacking. She does take them out in the lorry a lot for fun rides and hacks in different area's.

It depends where you are. My old share was on a livery yard and I paid the cost of one day's full livery.
Generally speaking the cost of sharing needs to be less than local RSs charge for an escorted hack because one pays for a share per month and regardless of whether or not one can ride that day.

Well I have two shares! One I pay £30 the other I pay £15 per ride. But the £30 is always a couple of hours in beautiful hacking. The cheaper one can be 2 hours but is often less so I don’t mind. No chores in either. If you have a lovely horse to ride and it’s cheaper than riding school old etc it’s a win win.

My daughter and I have been riding 2 fantastic horses for the past 10 months and we pay £5 each time we ride, of which I ride 3 x week and my daughter joins me at least once around her college and PT job.
Only hacking but amazing hacking on miles and miles of bridleways and off road riding and the owner loves her fit horses (ID x TB and and OTTB) so encourages us out for hours!
In the winter we also stuff nets and fill water buckets when up there and now they're out we'll poo pick a barrow each when we're there also. Cleaning tack goes without saying.

Since coblet has been lame its been a wonderful arrangement and I'd like to think we are good sharers, owner trusts us 100% and we even look after them when she goes away for weekends so its mutually beneficial.

We tried a share for my daughter at the weekend, £35 for three days and mucking out or poo picking on her days. There are two schools at the yard and access to good hacking. Assuming she gets on well with the pony the owner is happy for her to take her to pony club and some small local shows etc. I am hopeful this might be a good longer term option for my daughter.

I guess it depends on how good your hacking is. If lovely varied hacking and you can go out for at least a couple of hours, then I reckon minimum 100 per month, probably double if close to London.

My sharer covers the cost of shoes every 8 weeks. No stable duties but I insisted she carry riders insurance which her mum was happy to arrange. She rides 2 days a week but I'm happy for her to do more during school holidays.
No menage but we have miles of beautiful off road hacking on our doorstep.
I think it is a reasonable agreement as she gets a pony to ride and I get the benefit of my little chunk of a pony getting some much needed exercise so it's mutually beneficial to both of us.
I would say £25-£35 a week depending on days is a reasonable place to start.
