Finding a new horse?

I've made the decision to try to find a new horse as soon as possible. I want to get out and do things with one and it will give me focus again rather than just dwelling on what I had with Troy.

Now the hard part- where do i find one?!! Any suggestions on websites etc to look at much appreciated. I don't want to venture too far from the North East for practicality really.

I'm after something big and athletic. 16.1+ and of TB/ warmblood/ sporthorse type. It must jump and have reasonable movement for dressage.

I have a decent but not huge budget- I'm not looking for anything finished- I can school on myself, but I do want to be able to get it out this year to do some dressage and hunter trials. Eventually I'll aim to event it but it doesn't have to be ready to go now.

All I want is a decent young horse so I can get out and have some fun! Where DO I find one?!!!

Im sure you know all the usual horsemart, horsequest, horsedeals horse exchange etc.
I really hope you find something suitable soon, Is their not any dealers in your area? I got mine from a dealer and hes a star, Good luck with it all.

Try looking in Farmway in Piercebridge, and Armstrong Richardsons usually has a very good selection of horses for sale!

Also ad trader, either the yellow paper or online www.adtrader.co.uk is fab, there are so many horses to chose from in the north east, and many bargains to be had too!

All the usual places suggested above. So pleased you are ready to start looking. I went to see my ex-racer 4 days after I lost my pony - he arrived 5 days later. Many people said it was too soon, but I wasn't trying to replace her. It was April time and couldn't see the point in waiting as I wanted to crack on during the better weather. Mine was free from a racing yard - but there was no way he would have been able to do any competition that year, so I suppose an ex-racer is out of the question????????!!!!!!!!!!

That is rather nice- and hadn't come up in any of my searches cos of the POA. Of course that may mean its way over budget but we'll see!

Have been looking at usual places yes. Thanks for the recommendations to look at farmway and AR- hadn't even thought of those!

i brought my 4yo ish from a dealer last year and he is fab, probably if i was feeling brave i would def consider going over to the sales in ireland as i think you could get a lovely youngster for a bit less money, worth a thought.

I am considering a trip to Ireland as the lady I used to work for has a few contacts over there and is very keen to go looking with me!

sounds ideal if you already have acontact, lots of info on the websites about the different sales, think gorsebridge and cavan tend to be the big ones

Hi

I too have been on the search for a nice young horse to bring on - and its been a nightmare to find something under 10k that has good movement, temperament. I have seen shiverers, stringhalt, lame and mental owners. One 4yo warmblood advertised as stunning with 3 well above average paces and professionally produced was suddenly downgraded to a Shire x (maybe) and could not be seen ridden because it had not been sat on since November and the price........ £12,500!!! Another 5yo Belgian gelding described as wonderful we booked to see and 20 mins after making the appt they rang back and said as it was raining they were worried about him getting wet, when pushed they then said that they didn't want to ride him for us, and the price of that gem,....... £10k!!

Madness... Luckily I found a 5yo Hanovarian gelding by Seargent Pepper (Sandro) and he passed vet today! Phew..... I hate looking for horses.

But... I do know of a lovely 16.3hh Trakehner x gelding 5yo that I saw who is a good middleweight, with a temperament to die for. Let me know if interested.

I can send you loads of CB links, but I don't think you'd be ready to look at them. Troy was one in a million. Good luck with your quest.

ooh yes she has, in PG under Headley Britania, she has a young mare for sale, very well priced too!

Hi Sabre
Wish you were closer as we have a 7yr old 16.2 gelding who is currently out on loan. He is out of a Welton Crackerjack mare by Achtermann (graded Trakehner) He enjoys jumping (see photo taken at 41/2 yrs)

Anyway good luck with your search.

That homebred TB 4yr old gingermare! Well spotted- I think she looks like she could be really rather nice!!

You are all good people- give yourselves pats on the backs! I'm going to see two of the suggestions! One of you is very naughty though because one of the horses is overbudget, but soo nice!
