I am going in despair basically. I have got two beautiful large ponies (one 14.1hh and the other about 14.3hh),one of whom is particularly talented and when he was ridden by an advanced dressage rider she told me I should invest in his training as he was incredibly talented!! However, I just cannot seem to find a rider for him no matter how hard I try. I have had a whole succession of people who have said they want to ride him, and will ride him, but they never seem to want to commit to it when it comes to it. I am not looking for money from people, I have got transport for going to shows and am prepared to pay the costs, I dont expect the rider to do stable chores but they are welcome to if they wish, I am not a difficult person to get on with - I just want someone who would like a talented ride to take forwards for dressage and showing!! I would do it myself if I was not so fat and horrid :(:(:confused:

Has anyone got any ideas where I am going wrong???

Wish you were closer -my daughter is a BYRDS rider and I am struggling to find the next pony around 14-14.2hh within my price bracket.

Seriously, if you are considering loan/ride for the very talented one I would ask your local BYRDS regional development officer if they know of any talented riders who haven't got the next pony yet.

Why not ride yourself? Most ponies are pretty good weight carriers and the words you use make me think you are less heavy in person than in ur mind.

Might it be the fact that you are not asking for commitment - financial or otherwise - that you are only getting riders who are not committed?

As well as asking your local BYRDS development officer what about also asking your local pony club. If you look at thier websites and results you should be able to get a sense of which clubs have a good record in Dressage.

Although possibly a way away from you if you find no-one else you could try Alison Craig who is the DC of Cobham PC. They have an excellent dressage record and may know of a suitable rider. PM me if you need to contact details.

Sounds like a dream scenario for a young rider! Definitely speak to your local BYRDS, I know that a lot of talented young riders struggle to find the next pony in their price range.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. Although they classify as ponies they are both strapping lads being large breed natives so equally suitable for a competant teenager or adult as they are very well up to weight.

I have had a lady contact me who I am quite hopeful about so fingers crossed that maybe that will work out. Spotsrock, I can assure you I truly AM very heavy. I am constantly trying to shed some weight but it is a hard fight.

Thank you again and please keep any thoughts or suggestions coming as they are very much appreciated.

I'm in exactly the same situation, and losing the will to live!! I have a homebred 15.2hh mare that I would like somebody to event and hopefully bring up through the levels, her dam was a 2* Intermediate. I must have somebody to come at least twice a week to get the flat work established, like the Op I am happy to pay all costs, take to shows etc, but no luck. the only people to come don't even have what I would call the basic riding skills. Its very disheartening.
