Finding a saintly cob

Good horses aren't immune to being sold - bit strange to suggest they are!

My friend has recently sold an absolute saint of a cob. He has given all her children the world of confidence- did dressage, showjumping, cross country schooling, showing, beach hacks, you name it. They even taught him to drive. There was nothing he wouldnt have a go at and he was extremely quiet and gentle. Such a super star. But he was hopelessly outgrown by older daughter and other kids lost interest, so they sold him.
Someone has bought themselves absolute little gem of a horse, so they do exist.

No idea what your budget is OP, but have you considered a highland pony? I have one and he matches your wanted list to a tee, wasnt peanuts though. Like you, I dont have the skill to produce from scratch but was more than happy to pay the price I did to someone who had :)

I have admired highlands from afar for several years, I'd love one, I haven't seen one that fits the bill that hasn't been a mare (I'd ideally like a gelding). Where did you buy yours from? I only know one person who has one and they've said they're not best suited to everyone as they can be quite opinionated, and I want an easy life! Lol

What about Trina's Cob's, she seems to get recommended alot?

I recommend Trina's Cobs, I'm just about to gift her my beautiful 14.2hh cob x pintaloosa mare who has an amazing temperament but isn't backed/trained yet (unfortunately personal circumstances dictate I can't keep her now). I've spoken with Trina for a while, I went to see a cob she was selling middle of last year, and Trina and her daughters couldn't be nicer. I trust her with my mare, and certainly when I'm in the position to buy another cob, I'll be going back to Trina.

Well I'm still looking. I found a gorgeous Highland gelding who sounded perfect, but he was snapped up before I could do anything, and another who again was snapped up before I could even get a look in.
If anyone knows of anything that fits the bill please feel free to let me know. Horse hunting isn't fun anymore!

If a saintly cob came to the market I would want to know why. The way forward is a nice 4 year old and make it yourself, then treasure it for life.

I have a cob that was imported by Clip Clop Traders. Came in as 3 year old from Ireland, broken by dealer and sold very quickly to a very novice young man, who was soon over horses and terrorised by a highly intelligent cob mare. She came back to the market at a 5 year old with serious attitude and I bought her. Clip Clop Traders have a reasonable reputation but expect to see young cobs.

There is a facebook page for show cobs and there is plenty for sale that won't make a show cob, but again they will be unmade

This. I have a 14hh gelding . Had him since he was 3, and he was a total rocket back then , very wise to it and new how to pull a few crackers if he didn't want to do something . Part of his carachter though and I soon learnt how to deal with him and he is superb . Hes now 15 and does genuinely look after you . He's looked after me out hacking while pregnant and also will happily comply to doing wobbly 2/3year old children's hacks and look after them , but at the same time can go out and do area dressage and get 70%. He will never be for sale and to be honest I'm struggling with the thought of ever getting something else which could match him in that sense.

Sorry not much advice really but maybe have a look at something young but honest and you could have a horse of a lifetime .

I have one which will be available in about a month 14.2 cob mare rising 9, Great out hacking alone and in company, I'm just working on her schooling at the moment :) I'm in Leicestershire.

I have a gelding who I think in time will become a really good lad, at the moment he's still a spooky monster but he is improving slowly. I think he will take a bit of time to mature but i'm in it for the long haul. I have the means and need for another, so instead of having another project I'd like something I can enjoy now.

My YO has one - she bought him off the travellers when his owner died.

I think the key from what I've seen is word of mouth - though I have been scouring various facebook pages, websites, etc, for something. I have found them - but they have been snapped up before I even got a look in. Hardly surprising I suppose, but frustrating nonetheless.

I am looking for a gelding ideally, however wouldn't discount a mare if she ticked all the boxes :). Can I pop you a PM?

There's nothing quite as opinionated as hungry cob!

Thrilled to report I have found one and have bought him :D for someone who originally said a few years ago (when getting back into horses after a few years off) 'I don't like coloured cobs', well I have eaten my words as I am now the proud owner of two!
The new lad is a 7yo CHAPS registered gelding, measures 14.1 but rides bigger, and is just what I need. I went to try him on Friday night, against my better judgement driving up the M6 on a Friday Bank Holiday weekend. I took my instructor with me, which turned out to be crucial. I tried him and my initial thoughts were 'argh! Too forward!' But with my instructor there she told me to pull myself together, let him work me out, and me him, find out where his buttons were, and oh my what a cob! I was cantering around in minutes, which is a big thing for me being a nervous nellie. He has a huge stride, big powerful paces, I just had to think what I wanted and I got it, but with brakes too! I had a big grin on my face.
On Saturday morning I went back and took him for a hack, we met everything you could possibly come across, including low flying helicopter, a blazing fire, motorbikes, the lot. Absolutely perfect.

Excellent news, good luck.

Blake mccusker on facebook. He is very trustworthy. His horses sell very quickly.
Just be warned that a horse that behaves for him may not behave for you. I've seen a few BM sell-ons that weren't as described. He doesn't have them for very long before he sells them so can only describe then as what he sees in front of him.

Only just seen this brilliant news you found one. Hope all OK with existing boy though he was lovely

Hello! Pinto is doing well :) although having a few days off work as a fellow livery left the gate open and he and another escaped and did several laps of the yard, which is really stony. It's made a mess of his feet :( I'm watching him like a hawk as I'm sure he must have bruised soles. Hope you and your lovely cob are well! X

I'm always seeing this dealer called CNG cobs on Facebook and she always has a lot of 'saintly cobs' if her horses are really true to their adverts. Normally I wouldn't trust a dealer at all but a lot of people post gushing things about cobs they've got from her on her page and I've never seen any complaints on there, so that might be worth a look?

I bought my cob from a private owner, however when I was looking I followed a page on facebook called MTF Cobs - they have some gorgeous ones and lots of great reviews. I'm also pretty sure they deliver too. Good luck!
