Anyone have any tips about finder a sharer. I have a very sweet horse who I have had for about 7 years...at the moment I hunt him but I am always so busy he never gets any fuss or anything like that. Also - although he is sound (touch wood) I'm not going to be hunting him forever plus he's been too good a horse to ride into the ground. What I want is someone to come and help me out and make a contribution and in return love him and take him out hacking and maybe do some dressage.

What I don't want is someone that wants to bomb around and jump as he is precious to me so hopefully someone older maybe?

He is as steady as a police horse but needs an experience rider on board as (he's obviously used to bossy old me) if I put someone on that's nervous he panics!

Someone helped me out a few years ago but I lost trust when she tied up up to post and rail, he pulled back and I ended up with a £100 vets bill. Also - he rodeoed her off a few times because she lost her stirrups going from trot to canter?? (now I'm not Mary King but even I don't do that) - so obviously horse panicked! To put things into context I have had him about 7 years and have come off him about 10 times and 8 of those are down to my poor jumping technique, 1 was the day after I'd had a car accident - he spoken and I was stiff and plopped off and the other time I was on my phone and he spooked at a burnt out car and i plopped off.

Anyway - are the people out there who want a horse to do some nice steady hacks and the odd dressage competition or am I wasting my time in trying to advertise this???

I live in Northamptonshire

Thanks for reading this!!

Blimey - I've lost my stirrups a few times (wet soles etc) and glad my girl doesn't do that!! haha

Good luck finding someone - try newrider (free adveritising) or your local website....

No, I don't think you're wasting your time - as long as you are going to allow the odd canter out on a hack I am sure that you will find someone fairly easily. That is what I would like to find to share, but I am nowhere near you.

Hi,

I think there are bound to be people out there looking for something like this.

Whilst I am by no means a novice rider after a particularly nasty jumping accident I completely lost my confidence and became a lot more cautious when it came to jumping. It took me a whole year to build up the confidence to jump 3ft with my old horse. And whilst I won't turn down popping the odd log whilst out hacking, or the occassional XC session, I am happiest when schooling/dressage/hacking out and i'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Perhaps try putting an ad up in your local tack shop or online - I always find newrider.com to be quite good! You could always supervise the first few rides until you are sure the sharer is suitable.

I have a lady who shares my Grade A show jumper as now I have children I just dont have the time for her that she desereves and I didnt want to sell her on. Please make sure that who ever shares your horse has the appropriate insurance as you hear some real horror stories. It works really well for me and the lady as she gets to wash, tidy and ride and I have a very happy horse. Good luck

Try your local riding school, you could put a notice up, but better still speak to the owner.

If you specify no jumping and that you want an experienced adult you will find someone. I could think of a couple of people at our place that would fit the bill. At our place we have quite a number of people who don't jump at all and would be happy to hack and school, especially with the prospect of some dressage or ridden showing come summer.

Not all riding school clients are numpties either, we have a BHSAI in our group, and plenty have experience on the ground either through shares, working on a yard or qualifications. You will also find that they are generally keen and appreciate the value of what you are offering.

ah...that sounds good. Yeah hacking, cantering etc all good. Just don't want someone that wants to jump and someone that I can trust and that will treat him as their own (and won't bomb him up stubble fields). Re the stirrup thing - think he just had never had someone do that and just panicked (he's never dumped me when I've lost a stirrup and I often do it through combinations!). Both me and my friends that ride him would describe him as dull but if someone is nervous or not experience he panics and tries to run away! Weirdo horse!

Thanks for the advice...just sometimes feel sorry for him that he never gets any fuss...its just in, out, exercise
