My friend is looking for a horse at the mo, she has been to see several, i have been with her for 2 viewings, the lies and things we have witnessed are amazing!! I just wondered how long it took you all to find your ideal horses and also any advice would be much appreiciated!!

My young friend has been looking for a 14.2 for ages, seen loads and loads. they thought they had found one they liked but the owner was really pushing them into buying it and he wouldnt let them get the vet they wanted to vet the pony! and their still lookin.........

Let the sellers come to you........that is, advertise for what you want, people tend to be more honest it you are very specific about what you are looking for.

I normally advertise in H&H with a box number, ask for videos if you think you'll get time to look at them all. We just ask for photos, test sheets etc and it takes ages to pick through the info and make a short list, but it has saved me lots of time in the long run.

I put a wanted ad on horsequest when I was looking to buy.
I was inundated with responses, probably about 50-60% were suitable.
I managed to look at 6 in one day all located within a 100 mile radius of each other and chose one of those.
I wouldn't hesitate to put a wanted add in, in the future!

One error I did make was not to specify where I wanted to travel to and on one occasion the best reply was over 11 hours travelling from me!

Still, I was so convinced that we went, bought the horse and he has been a fantastic friend to us for years and I have never regretted buying him.

Agree with the others - put the word round everywhere that you are looking. When I was looking last year, I replied to several ads and went miles and, like you, the lies people told were incredible. I then put the word round and found my horse that way - she is better than described and completely perfect for me. I think you have to be prepared to travel. We set ourselves a limit of 200 miles. Good luck.
