Hi everyone, I hope this is okay!

But I am trying to do some research of my mares breeding as she came with a plain passport (from two years ago)
We recently got her DNA tested and have found out she is by Waikiki but still have no clue what her dam is. We think she was an embryo transfer but are not completely sure! Does anyone have any ideas what steps I should take next and if anyone has any idea who I should contact.

She is also 7 years old.

Many thanks,Rebecca.

The stallion owner should know to whom they sold semen. Embryo transfer is expensive, I wonder why anyone would go to that expense and then not get a full passport?

You could also look up the stallion on the Sport Horse Database and see which foals were sired by him. Yours might be shown.

Does the microchip offer a clue as to who bred her?

Yeah thats what I was thinking, I just don't know I could get in contact with to find out,I can't find online where Waikiki stood at stud or where his semen was sold. My mare has only got a "Horse Agency Passport" with no breeding on what so ever. I had to go down the route of DNA testing for the stallion but no idea about the mare. I'm sure there must be records somewhere I just don't know where to start!

Waikiki was graded for hanoverian and he stood at celle for a while but then moved on. does your mare have a brand that looks like an h with a number under it at the top of her left hind leg? If so you can give the number along with her description to the hanoverian verband and they will be able to identify her for you. the stallion was not particularly popular so it should not be hard to trace her although I would be suspicious of the passport because I would have expected her to have come with a hanoverian one.

No she has no Hanoverian branding,I have been in contact with the British Hanoverian Society,as they did the DNA for me but only did the stallion DNA. Yeah its all very strange. I don't know the breeder but apparently he got the embryos and sperm from germany.

I would be contacting the hanoverian verband in verden as they may possibly have some records and also possibly celle. it is unlikely that someone would buy an embryo from germany as it would be taken from the donor mare and put into the recipient so would most likely either have all been done here or all in germany. I am not sure if records are kept that would just show up et foals from a specific stallion or not but since relatively speaking there were not that many foals from him it may be possible to reduce the possibilities. could also be possible that someine had bought some frozen semen that had been sat in the tank for a few years and decided to use it on a mare to get rid of it or see if it was still viable. maybe contact the person who had the passport done as they would be in the best position to tell you why she had one issued at 5 years old and then go from there
