So I posted a month or so back asking for feedback on my sharer ad. which was helpful thank you all for contributing.

I posted said ad on FB pages of local riding clubs/horse groups, equine adverts, emailed to local horsey contacts, put up on tack shop boards etc

and had only one responce from a time waster :(

I really cant get my head around what im doing wrong to be honest. Im asking for £20 per week for as good as unlimited riding, Ive tried to make clear that Im flexible to days/times/money and chores. Ive tried to list all his best points and been honest about they are (there arent many negative things to say about him unless your hoping to BE, because hes a basic chunky native all rounder cob and at 14.2 I dont think he's Burghley material!!) He will pop a jump, will hack all day longer is a total confidence giver and 110% bombproof.

Is the market really this bad?!

Not posting ad this time as last thread was taken down as 'advertising' but if anyone wants to offer to critique I'll happily PM you a link :)

We advertised two of ours for loan on numerous sites but found the most response from Preloved.

One is a super quick 15.3 Anglo Arab mare whos 25 years old but now on part loan to a 13 year old girl who jumps, schools, hacks and does fun rides with her.

The other was a 14.1 15 year old gelding who'd been in the wars abit and as a result now can't be shown but he was on part loan to a 10 year old girl who hacked, schooled, jumped and did fun rides with him. Her parents brought her her own pony after a month of so of having him so we re-advertised him but for full loan and found someone within a couple of days.

Both can't move off our yard.

Edited to add: we charge £20 per week plus £30 every 8 weeks towards shoes for part loan and for full loan loanee covers everything apart from injections).

They can ride as much as they want (even if part loan) and only have to do chores if the horses are in as ours live out 24/7

I have had several responses from Preloved and Equine Ads, couple of potential people coming out this weekend to see if they can meet by very fussy standards.

I am not asking for money, just that they do all the daily jobs, really good groom and really look after them well - or else!

I think it's probably due to the demand in your area. I see perfect shares and realise they're too far for me, and I don't have the time to travel 45 mins twice a day for a pony I see twice a week!

I'd keep the advert up and hopefully the right person will come along :)

That is a great price for what seems a real confidence giver ! I could only say have you got him on Horsemart ? Adhorse etc. they were the main ones we used when searching for loan/buying.

Maybe people are being hit a bit harder in the pocket than we realise?

I was talking to one of the mums at nursery about loaning she said that shes having to give up her lovely loan simply because family finances are stretched the luxuries have to go including her few hours a week. It doesn't sound much by the day/week but I suppose when you add up the monthly when most people get paid £80 or £100 out of a family budget can be a bit of a pain to explain to the other half especially if they have kids.

Hope you find a nice loaner there are some lovely people out there.

I know im bias but hes an absolute little gem!! we call him the little angel because he is, and thats the main reason i dont want to sell because im pretty sure horses like him dont come around everyday, but it seems a waste for him to sit in the field getting fat :)

Hes a total confidence giver but isnt a plod at all, he can really shift when he wants to to but makes you feel soo safe, I bought him after a LWVB which went a bit wrong and destroyed my confidence, he had me out and about and doing everything within weeks, he got my friend back in the saddle and jumping within 3 weeks having been out of the saddle for over 10 years.

I know anyone that meets him will fall in love right away - I just havent had any calls!! will perhaps look at a few more websites, a new tack shop seems to have sprung up down the road as well so will give them a try at the weekend.

Its just soo frustrating

People do look at preloved and I have had responses there. However my main responses came from putting ads on horsequest which is expensive but found both fabulous loaners for my horse. The last of these was willing to keep him at his current yard and to take on the majority of the cost (she does have him full-time so proper loan) as well as doing all the work herself, and she is just lovely. For the £40 ish you pay, the response rate seems better, as does the quality of the applicants.

Thanks abacus, I don't mind spending money on advertising if its likely to get a good response, I will definitely have a look at horse quest after tea :)

Just wondering if the picture I'm using might make a difference? since we haven't been out and about much in the past year or so and I am on a private yard with a non horsey OH I don't generally have a photographer around - would a good 'action shot' make much difference?

Now I'm having the opposite problem . I have a lovely new yard , and am currently looking for exactly your horse , but to have on loan , to keep in company with my other two thoroughly pampered equines to replace my first pony who died after we'd had her over 30 years . Can I find someone who might allow their horse to move yards ? Not a chance. I can provide references from my last two YO before I moved house , my old instructor , my new instructor , both my vets , my farrier who lives next door , and all my equally horsey neighbours, but no . I do understand it , it is a huge risk trusting someone else with your pride and joy , but it has been hugely frustrating .

I sympathise AS, all of my horses have been LWVB so i know when your looking how hard it is to find. Ive been very lucky. I do know there are lots of very good loaners out there I really do, I just feel I want to exhaust the option of him staying with me before I look at him moving. that said Ive not had anyone make an enquiry as I would consider letting him leave in 6 months or so time, if my circumstances dont change

It is just as bad for sharers. Multiple boards to read through and a surplus of young or spooky horses on offer. My veteran share was retired and I guess the placid oldies never get advertised. It's done by word of mouth. One needs to go round the yards and introduce oneself.

I dont doubt theres plenty of timewasting owners and project horses out there.

I am just about hackable from a lovely equestrian centre, although we dont have an arena, we do have some beautiful hacking which goes for miles and miles, and im quite happy for loaner/sharer to take him out and about, unfortunately I dont have my own transport, although we are looking.

I'm sure you've thought of this already, but have you put ads up in the local riding schools?

Feel free to PM me the ad, I found two fantastic part-loaners for one of mine through local ads.

Ahh thrapston would be perfect. If you need a rider over Xmas when I'm home let me know!! I'm Raunds way when I'm not in Nottingham.

Will do I'll be down from 21st to 28th. I'm trying to find somewhere to ride when I'm down that's close by, if you know of any riding schools nearby that would be good too.

I will defo message you near to Xmas, I need to meet horsey people that way as if a job comes up I will defo be riding more.

I don't get whats wrong with people, I have been advertising my western trained quarter horse for sale but as not had alot of interest I think due to he is sorrel (chesnut) so boring colour in most's opinion and the current economic climate I have advertised him available for someone to come and ride.

I'm not asking any financial contribution although i could do with it, i just want someone to spend time fussing him and to enjoy him and give him a job basically as I am nly finding time to ride him once a week at the moment hence reason for selling as I have a youngster to bring on and I train horses all day as my job!

Had one person interested and then never heard from her again, now before I bought said horse I was desperate to find a horse to ride and would have snapped up what I am offering.

The horse lives out and where he is kept has fabulous facilities and 2 instructors/trainers at hand for lessons!

Now....someone tell me what I am missing and why this isn't being snapped up!
