After seeing the post below about someone who has a nice yard but had found one nearer and as nice if not better I just wanted people's experiences of finding a good yard.

I have kept my horse in the same area for 12 years and in that time I have moved yards a couple of times - the ones of old have since closed. At the moment I am looking for a new yard as over the past year or so the yard I am at has gone downhill to the point that the fields are so overstocked my horse is thinner than he was coming out of the winter!

I have advertised in the adtrader but always get people who are too far away calling. I have thought about putting a notice on my trailer when I go to shows but again these are normally 20-30 miles from where I want to keep him.

Obviously there are yards near me but none that I would want to move to for various reasons!

So any ideas as to find grazing / livery in my area?

I am in March, Cambridgeshire if anyone wants a nice well behaved gelding on livery with his well behaved mummy for company!

Sometimes you'll see places advertise on boards at local shows or in tack shops. Sometimes if you ask farriers they may know of somewhere that has vacancies.....Good Luck

I've found it really hard. I live in york and there are hardly any decent yards around here! They are nearly all DIY, and the ones that offer part or full have massive waiting lists. I found my current yard by chance, it's actually a private farm who breed their own horses, I do like it as it's very relaxed and like having surrogate parents, but it's a bit far away really (10 miles, takes 45 mins from work in the traffic...) and is really more than I can afford. But sadly there isn't much choice!
Hope you find a yard, if you were in Yorkshire and I had my own place you would be more than welcome!!

When I've been stuck for grazing in years gone by I've just opened the yellow pages at farmers then started phoning. I know farmers hate horses but on three occassions I've had farmers with outbuildings not in use and have agreed to let me have used of a field and building for reasonable rent. I think thats what I would try again if anything went wrong. I always sell it as another way to make money for them. That usually makes their ears prick up!!! Good luck!

Theres a new dressage yard opened nr Doddington I've seen advertised in the Yellow ads - what sort of areas are you looking at? Can ask my mate who is Wisbech based
