it seems i have one:o

no matter what i do with his girth, prolite sleeve, sheepskin sleeve, comfort girth.... always carefully sponging down if he's sweaty, my horse still gets a rub mark at either side just behind his 'armpit' area.

As his coat is changing.. he now has rub marks under the back of his saddle. Which was recently checked by saddler and has a le mieux numah under it.

And today - after schooling, i noticed his hind prem equine boots have rubbed his legs - grr we only got them for christmas as well!!

anyone else got a horse like this? any tips?

My WBxTB is exactly the same. She's rising four and not backed yet, but I've had to wrap and pad her headcollar in fleece and she rubs bald on her body SO easily. I'll be really interested to read what advice others can give as I suppose I'll be in the same boat as you later this year. :(

My horse is always sensitive but when his coat is changing it is awful! Rugs start to rub, tack and boots rub and he can even end up with bald patches where my leg lies on his side - and no, I am not 'gripping!'. I end up having to consciously keep my legs away from his sides; still it's good for my leg muscles I suppose :D

I haven't really found anything that helps although a sheepskin noseband used over his poll does stop the rub marks behind his ears. Sheepskin girths, cheekpieces etc don't seem to do anything though.

I just put up with it as when his coat comes through he will look fine again.

:)

Aaaaagh! The trouble of keeping fine-skinned horses rub free is never ending. :(

The rub on her side was from my new, v expensive Ariat boots. Plus I only rode for 20 mins - 1/2 hour max. :( So the boots are now 'yard boots' and havn't been ridden in since.

I have found that grip/anti-slip numnahs rub less (I have the Barnsby one) and I use a stud girth with sheepskin lining. It is very nicely shaped around the elbows so that the elbows have more room than with an atherstone girth.

i feel your pain, mine looks a sheep whenever i have to bring him out anywhere, anywhere that can be padded is padded!

Hahahaha!!!! You should see my lad - he looks like a rescue case!!

He's not up and running yet under saddle but i'm sure he'll end up with bits of fur missing in various places.

See what I mean on his flank where he's sweat a bit and his rug has rubbed the fur off??!!! The ones on his shoulders where his rug has been are starting to re-fluff over but he's looked absolutely dreadful over the winter!!

That is strange - the fact only yesterday I was reading up on ivermectin side effects (my chappie got lami last time we used it so been doing some worming research) and it says skin sensiitvity, loss of hair is one of them. Have you recently wormed?

I can't remember if it was January we last wormed? Memory like a seive! Hm, maybe it did get worse on his flanks around that time? Will have to Goggle (!) it and have a read :)
