Please keep your fingers crossed for the safe trip of my 13year old mare tomorrow as she makes the return journey from Luxembourg to Ireland, 7 years after moving out here with me. The trip over in 2010 was pretty stressful for her and she arrived to me in quite a poorly state, I was terrified I'd made the biggest mistake of my life moving her - but she bounced back and we've learned so much together here as our bond deepened.

She is travelling with someone who took great care of my second mare when she came over here 4 years ago and I am sending electrolytes with the 13year old should there be any worry of her not drinking enough. I fly out myself on Wednesday to hopefully be there in Co. Cork when she arrives at her destination after stopovers in the Netherlands tomorrow night and the UK on Wednesday.

Hoping for a smoother trip this time as she heads off to hopefully be covered in the spring.

I know it is probably uncouth to be the first person to reply to your own thread, but I have never been at the departure side of one of these transport arrangements. Both times I've transported horses through professionals I was on the deposit side not pick up.

This may be a really stupid question, but is there any tipping involved? Like luck money when you buy a new horse?
We know how superstitious us horsefolk can be, I do not wish to make a faux pas & hope the wealth of HHO knowledge can help me out here.

Thanks in advance

I had my gelding transported from Bantry in Ireland to West Yorkshire when I bought him three years ago, but there was no tipping involved at my end. The transport costs had already been covered and the driver didn't seem to expect anything extra.

Good luck for a safe and smooth journey!

Thanks all, she's on her way in great style. A massive 18-20 horse truck, which she walked right up onto quiet as a lamb. 😍
Pics on my insta @lyssatra I don't have a photo sharing account to post them here

I'm sure she will be fine. Most of the big transport companies are excellent horse people and have seen and dealt with it all in a he past. No need to tip but it's entirely up to you. If you're delighted with how she arrives the driver definitely won't say no to €20 for a few drinks. There's absolutely no need though...
