Finishing schooling on a good note

Second question of the day, I am lunging Poppy in walk and trot, and I am sure she knows what to do. Good on one rein, not so hot on the other but I have taken advice on a previous post. Today's problem is Poppy decided when she had had enough and as a result we didn't finish the session her doing what she was supposed to do. In addition she got a bit wary of the whip and kept backing away rather than so we ended up putting the whip down and just walking a circle on both reins with me leading her.

I know it is early days, this is the third session, but I don't want her to think she can get away with it!

Most people who school, whether lunging or ridden, have a plan for the lesson. Things don't always go to plan though and what you originally wanted to do, you can't. This might be for different reasons, we all have off days, including horses, but there is no point in insisting forcefully or persevering for ages to get what you planned to do. Don't force it, ask for something simple and end it with a pat and encouraging word. Don't turn your sessions into a battle.
