I am on box rest at the moment and feeling very sorry for myself
the mini-Worried which I am hatching is fine but I am falling falling apart so I have been housebound since coming out of hospital last weekend.
So sitting doing nothing gave me time to catch-up on all the paperwork which meant discovering Finn was due his flu and tet which also means we have had him for a whole year!
So thought I would share the last 365 days with you (it also killed an hour while I found all the pics
It's a long and sentimental one - can only aplogise and blame the hormones
Our search criteria for a new horse in the autumn of 2009 was simple: we needed a gelding, pref MW over 16hh, age, looks immaterial ideally with no major ailments, his role was to fill the enormous boots left by Hils and be a yard nanny and all round sensible bod.
We saw a fair few and were starting to give up hope and then we went to a local dealer and saw this:
To be fair this was a vast improvement on the original viewing where we honestly believed he was a darft cross with a sheep as he was SO hairy!
We tried him in the school and over a couple of jumps and seemed ideal so we arranged to go back and see him to hack and asked them to clip him! My sister hacked him out while I waited in the car
he was foot perfect and so later that evening the horse with no name came home and soon settled in to life with Team Worried.
Eventually he was given the name Finn - and on closer inspection of his passport we were shocked to discover that our little sheep was in fact quite a smart little ISH who was well bred and had £75 BSJA winnings
So in between hacking out and being a 'calming' influence on Blitz and Diva I began to steal him and try and make him into a dressage pony
He had no personality when he arrived - absolutely nothing
but little by little he began to turn into a loveable rogue who has a heart of gold. He always greets me with a whicker and when we came back from our holiday earlier in the year as soon as I called him he came trotting over neighing at me.
He became mega useful and we soon couldn't remember not having him around, from looking after Ron to being turned out with Diva and being her 'chill pill'
So all my schooling was finally put to the test when my sister and I volunteered Mr Worried to take him to Cobham to do a BD Novice test - obviously there was no way I was taking him in case he was a lunatic
As if I ever needed to worry
He was a superstar and scored a respectable 63% and came 5th
So all inpsired I set about continuing with the dressage transformation and boy was he cross
Much to everyone's suprise including my own we won our first prelim at Speedgate with 68%
Cementing the fact that Finn is a legend!
But the comments I got from MIL such as: "You won!!!" and from Mr Worried: "Oh my god - did you!" left me a little upset that Team Worried does not take us seriously!
Then came the news that my sister wanted to sell him as she was buying a house
I was so upset and asked Mr Worried if we could take him over on loan... Lots of tears later; I think he would have agreed to anything to get me to stop
and Finn was now a permanent addition to Team Worried
He does the odd lunge lesson and flatwork lesson to earn his keep and I take him out hacking and enjoy doing all the things that her royal Divaness can't cope with like going through the woods and round the orchards
And so he has been with us for a whole year today
I am sure that someone loved Finn very much, he only has two previous owners in his passport who owned him from when he came over from Ireland and both where local to the area we live in. The dealer told us he had been owned by a teenager whose parents divorced and then she got a boyfriend and lost interest. Who knows? But I do know that Finn seems to know he got a second chance and has grabbed it with both hooves. On the outset a 13-y-o in a dealers yard is not the most optimistic outlook but he found us and here is where he will stay
I still miss Hils but Finn has filled his shoes and more, I often do a double take as he wears a lot of his old rugs and even for a while his bridle -
So just for old times sake Hils gets a look in
So happy 1 year anniversary Finn
